🌕🍓 Full Strawberry Moon — June 11, 2025
On the night of June 11, skywatchers around the world will be treated to the Full Strawberry Moon — the final full moon of spring or the first of summer, depending on the solstice.
🔭 Why is it called the "Strawberry Moon"?
The name originates from Native American Algonquin tribes who used this full moon as a seasonal marker for the ripening of wild strawberries. While the moon doesn’t actually turn red or pink, its low position on the horizon during moonrise can sometimes give it a warm, golden, or even rosy hue due to atmospheric conditions.
🌍 When and where to watch:
You can observe it rising just after sunset and shining bright all night. For the best view, head to an area with a clear horizon and minimal light pollution. It will appear larger when near the horizon due to the "moon illusion."
✨ Fun fact:
June's full moon is also known in some cultures as the “Honey Moon,” a term that may be linked to the tradition of June weddings and the belief that this is the sweetest time of year.
