Three things I would do if I were restarting my routine as a non morning person:

Number one: I’d do a closing shift the night before. I’m picking out my clothes, resetting my workstation, loading the dishwasher and figuring out what I need to do first tomorrow. Because I already know I’m not waking up excited to make decisions.

Number two: I’d wake my body up before asking my brain to work. Loud music, something cold to drink, cold eye patches, open the blinds, walk around for a minute. I need to actually feel awake before I start demanding productivity from myself.

Number three: I’d stop measuring a productive morning by how early it started. If I wake up at 7 and get the important s**t done, that was a productive morning. I’m not waking up at 5AM just so I can be exhausted by 1PM.

Do what works for you. Don’t copy someone else’s routine

While I love me a good relaxing Friday after-work routine, it matters even more going into fall because it gives you a clear “the workweek is over” moment, especially when you WFH and there’s no commute creating that separation for you.

As fall comes in, the days get shorter, it gets darker earlier, we naturally spend more time indoors, and it becomes way too easy to close the laptop and just… stay in the exact same spot scrolling until bedtime.

A Friday routine gives you something to transition into instead. Shut down the laptop, reset your desk, shower, change into something cozy, order your favorite food, light a candle, go on a little Friday night walk, watch something you’ve been saving all week, whatever makes Friday actually feel different from Tuesday.

It’s less about having another routine to follow and more about making sure work doesn’t quietly eat the beginning of your weekend.

I hope you guys try out something relaxing this weekend.

You need your own routine because the best routine isn’t the one that looks productive online. It’s the one that actually fits your energy, your schedule, your personality, and the life you’re trying to live.

Let me know what else you struggle with when it comes to building a routine that works for you and I will talk about it on my next video.

Because a routine can look perfect on Instagram and still be completely wrong for your actual life.

The goal isn’t to become the kind of person who wakes up at 5AM, journals, drinks lemon water, works out, meditates and somehow has homemade breakfast ready by 7:12. The goal is to figure out what makes your own life run better.

Once you understand yourself, you stop fighting yourself. You learn when you naturally have energy, what makes you procrastinate, how much structure you actually need, what throws you off, what helps you get back on track, and which habits you can realistically repeat.

Otherwise, you can spend years thinking you’re “bad at routines” when really you’ve just been trying to live according to somebody else’s operating manual.

A good routine shouldn’t just look like you have your s**t together. It should make having your s**t together easier.

Our brain is annoyingly easy to influence 😩

And while I would rather stay in PJs all day, the problem is that when you WFH, there’s already almost no physical difference between home mode and work mode. Getting dressed just creates one.

So the point isn’t “you need to look presentable while working from home.”

It’s using clothes as a switch between parts of your day when your environment never changes. As a type B person, this has helped me in more ways than one because by the time I’m done dressing up, I unable to procrastinate my next admin.

How do you make wfh feel less repetitive?

I’ve been waking up at 5–6 AM for work for years and I’m still not a morning person.

Waking up isn’t really the problem, staying awake is because I work from home and it’s easy to want to dive back into bed.

So my entire morning routine is basically designed to keep me up. I play loud music, keep my eye patches in the fridge so they’re freezing cold when I put them on, and always drink something cold. Anything that makes it harder for my body to convince me we should go back to bed.

What does your routine look like?
