Today the Hartford Community Podcast Lab program begins via Zoom! We decided to move the in-person classes to Zoom for the health and safety of participants. One benefit to this is that we have an awesome teacher leading the program remotely.

Meet Jared Marcelle.

Jared Marcelle is an audio producer/reporter from Crown Heights in Brooklyn, NY.
Growing up, Jared was into sports and creative writing. But as he got older, he started seeing the lack of black representation in the media and decided to use his voice to amplify the experiences of underrepresented communities and groups.
Since making this his mission, Jared’s work has be heard across public radio shows such as This American Life, The Takeaway and on podcasts like WNYC‘s “Caught” which looks into the lives of youths in the juvenile justice system.

Our Story

In keeping with its mission of fostering new and diverse journalistic talent, Futuro Media has created the Hartford Community Podcast Lab, dedicated to developing, piloting, producing, and distributing new audio projects by emerging POC storytellers.

A project of Futuro Media, the Community Podcast Lab was piloted in Boston in the fall of 2018. Partnering with local arts and community groups and WBUR, the local public radio station, Futuro created a three-month course focused on elevating the stories and skills of people of color from Boston. The Lab was hosted out of the PRX Podcast Garage and trained six people of color on how to create a powerful voice through podcasting.

Now partnering with Free Center and Kamora’s Cultural Corner, Futuro Media is excited to bring this program to Hartford to help capture the untold stories from the neighborhoods of the city.

Apply here for your chance to be a part of the first Hartford Community Podcast Lab cohort!
