And Miles To Go Before I Sleep | On Tour With The Grateful Dead, Summer 1993

Twenty-six years ago yesterday, The Grateful Dead took the stage at Buckeye Lake Music Center in Hebron, OH. Northern Lights' founding partner Philip Bruell, 20 at the time, and Relix publisher Peter Shapiro, 21, were both there, spending a month documenting the swelling Dead scene.
The Buckeye Lake show opens "And Miles To Go Before I Sleep: On Tour with the Grateful Dead Summer 1993," which was edited on a Video Toaster in the spare bedroom of Phil and NL co-founder David Gioiella’s apartment at Northwestern University. The full film is now available on YouTube, take a look!

On Friday, May 31, in Milan, Italy the AIR3 Associazione Italiana Registi (Italian Directors Guild), A.D. Basket Femminile Milano (Milan Women's Basketball), Fondazione Cariplo and the Municipality of Milano hosted a special screening of “Chi-Town” at BASE Milano for participants in Milan's youth basketball leagues. Special thanks to Carlo Arturo Sigon and Christine Wexler for organizing the event. The feature doc was edited by Northern Lights' Chris Carson and executive-produced by NL partners Mark Littman and David Gioiella.

"Chi-Town" follows Keifer Sykes on his meteoric rise from Marshall High School on Chicago's West Side to his improbable shot at the NBA. This exhilarating multi-year journey of the explosive point guard's ascent is punctuated by personal loss, debilitating injury, and tragic violence. The film premiered at SXSW and is now available on Amazon Prime and iTunes.

MTV Networks/2016 VMAs "Social Influencers""

Our work on the 2016 Video Music Awards promos for MTV, starring Key and Peele, was a true team collaboration. BODEGA produced and shot the footage Thursday night, NORTHERN LIGHTS' Pat Carpenter edited overnight, the spots were finished and mixed by SuperExploder's Brady Hearn Friday afternoon, and they were out the door Friday evening in time for the awards show Sunday night. The Emmy winning NBC Sports Olympics team reached out to us to create a regional marketing campaign for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. They asked us to develop a series of spots that introduce Olympic athletes to their hometown fans. Working collaboratively with NBC Sports and our sister companies BODEGA, Mr. Wonderful, and SuperExploder, we concepted and produced over 100 spots that are currently airing across the country on NBC affiliate stations.
