SUBMISSION GUIDELINES—What We Publish:

Three Rooms Press publishes full-length (word counts of 65,000+) literary novels, young adult novels, and creative nonfiction. NOTE: At this time we are not accepting submissions for collections of poetry, short stories, or essays. We are focused on publishing a range of voices and books that more fully reflect the diverse society in which we live. We are particularly interested in publishing work of writers from underrepresented communities in terms of sexual identity, ethnicity, gender, disability, and social mobility. Our press is inspired by diversity, dada, punk, and passion: please keep this in mind when submitting. To get an idea of the type of work we publish, spend some time with our books to determine whether your work and our list are compatible—and be prepared to write a statement indicating why Three Rooms Press is a perfect fit for your submission. We are currently most interested in seeing these in our inbox:

1) Authentic stories written from diverse perspectives, across all genres (see Disasterama by Alvin Orloff).

2) YA Fiction with fully realized casts of characters, including female, LGBTQ+, and underrepresented leads (see Quiver by Julia Watts)

3) Unique, brilliant, and extremely well-written punk rock memoirs and biographies (see Punk Avenue by Phil Marcade)

4) Inventive riffs on existing genres, particularly noir and cyberpunk (see Scavenger by Christopher Chambers)

5) Biographies of unusually noteworthy people and events that deserve a place in history books (see BAD: The Autobiography of James Carr)

6) Diversely populated worlds, including those with speculative elements (see The Door to Inferna by Rishab Borah)

7) Imaginative and innovative plots, particularly YA and adult novels exploring friendship and coming-of-age (see Nirvana Is Here by Aaron Hamburger)

HOW TO SUBMIT:

Send your proposal to [email protected] and include the following:

1-2 paragraph synopsis of your book
Why Three Rooms Press is a good fit for you
At least 3-4 similar books published within the past two years
A basic marketing plan and a description of how you can contribute to publicity
The first three chapters of your book, or at least 50 pages

PLEASE DO NOT send a full manuscript at this time. We try to respond to every submission we receive, typically within six to eight weeks. If you don’t hear from us within eight weeks, you may assume that your title does not fit our needs at this time. But do feel free to submit other titles in the future. Good luck, and keep creating.

This October, actress Angelica Page marks her literary debut with an in-depth biography/memoir of her mother, legendary actress Geraldine Page. BOUNTIFUL: Growing Up with Geraldine Page is the first book ever written about one of the mid-20th century’s most notable star of stage of screen. Geraldine Page was nominated for four Tony awards and an incredible eight Oscars, finally winning the Best Actress award for her stunning performance in 1985’s The Trip to Bountiful. 3RP co-director Kat Georges spoke with Angelica about her mother, her own childhood, and her process in creating this in-depth examination of an extraordinary star.

MAINTENANT 20: A Journal of Contemporary Writing and Art has now been out for a month! From launch parties, contributing author readings, and dada events across the country, we hope Maintenant 20 has touched all corners of the earth, bringing boundary-pushing thoughts and stereotype-breaking art to the masses. The Maintenant series established in 2008, explores themes of politics, humanity, philosophy, and current concerns from an antiwar, anarchic (and often eye-opening) perspective.

The journal’s mission is crucial and is shared by this year’s 240 contributors from across the world. We cannot thank each and every contributor enough for being willing to put their work out into the world, especially during a time of rife with censorship and unaccountability.

MAINTENANT 20: A Journal of Contemporary Writing and Art:
Politics has taken its turn to arrive at the worst and the creatures involved have become LOLiticians, their every move from either side laughable—that is, if you still believe in truth. In Maintenant 20: A Journal of Contemporary Dada Writing and Art, we examine the concept of “Improperganda,” with 240 contributors from around the world exploring the idea that without truth, there’s no need for disapproval.

MAINTENANT 20 is only available in print because the work within must be experienced deeply, first-hand, not skimmed online. Copies are now available to order directly from Threeroomspress.com, from major online outlets including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Bookshop, or on-request from your favorite Indie bookstore (via our distribution partner, Ingram).

Activist Nancy Kurshan will discuss her new book, Levitating the Pentagon and Other Uplifting Stories.

In Levitating the Pentagon and Other Uplifting Stories, longtime activist Nancy Kurshan offers a vivid, woman’s-eye view of seven decades of radical social change. From the founding of the Yippies and the theatrical feminist resistance of W.I.T.C.H., to solidarity work with political prisoners and Black liberation movements, Kurshan’s life chronicles the evolution of the U.S. Left—from civil rights to antiwar to feminist, abolitionist, and internationalist struggles.
