I flew to Ireland to see the (ahem) “house” my mother inherited.

No running water. No electricity. No indoor plumbing. Hasn’t been unlocked in 20 years. Overgrown brambles make it nearly impossible to access.

And yet… it’s magic. ✨ Follow along as we attempt to restore the old stone farmhouse my grandmother and her siblings grew up in. 🇮🇪

☘️Come inside the abandoned Irish farmhouse my mother just inherited with me… a home no one has been inside of for 20 years.
My Grandmother grew up in this house and lived here until she moved to the US. My Great Uncle lived here until 20 years ago when he had a stroke.
My mother recently inherited the home, and I plan to renovate and restore it to honor my family. I’ve got my work cut out for me!😅♥️🇮🇪

Buying a home in NYC just doesn’t make sense any more. So I decided to keep renting in NYC and buy a vacation home upstate. It doubles as short-term rental, so someone else pays my mortgage. It builds equity, grows my wealth and best of all, gives me a place to vacation for FREE. New Yorkers, considering buying your “second home” first? ✨

One of the things I’ve seen happen with many investors is that over time their approach evolves.

When you first get started, it’s very common to do everything yourself.

And that’s exactly what Katie and her husband did with their first couple of investments.

But by the time they purchased their next property, they were in a different stage of life.

So instead of trying to repeat the same process they had on the first two properties they made the decision to outsource most of the work.

With the help of painters, electricians, landscapers, and other contractors, they were able to renovate and furnish the property in just 7 days.

Five days later, the listing was live on Airbnb.

They had about 10 weeks before the property needed to be winterized… and ended up with roughly 83% occupancy during that window.

Had they taken the same DIY approach they used on their first properties, there’s a good chance the home wouldn’t have been ready to rent until the following season.

The renovation was more expensive because they outsourced more of the work.

But it allowed them to capture an entire rental window they otherwise might have missed.

One of the things I appreciate about Katie’s story is that it shows there isn’t just one way to build a real estate portfolio.

What works in one season of life may look very different a few years later.
