I shot this in November with the , headed by Art Garfield in conjunction with the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services. As a member of the and , I take immense pleasure in its release and publication. It is an honor to have had Director, Roderick Giles, our beloved "RG," direct the scenes where I'm on camera, and provide such insight fueled by his season experience and natural instinct.
It is wild and wonderful to be on both sides of the camera. There is more to think of, more to plan, more to execute and more to be conscious of, and I so look forward to doing it again...and again...and again. (and again :))
Art is such a catharsis and such healing for me--no matter what the project. I've expanded with each character I've ever portrayed. It is this project that expanded me from Actor to Filmmaker and I celebrate it with joy and gladness, and I'm eager for more. Seeing my written, scripted words come to life in 5D with the facial expressions of my wonderful actors, Charlotte Jones, Jovan Hale, & real-life siblings Ephiani, Marcellus Jr. and Ishmael Dyson, who portrays my son, the hearing of their voices, their interaction with one another and their willingness to be vulnerable and live in the moment, is a feeling I will forever relish and adore.
I find myself appreciating more and more, the contrasting experiences that cultivated the creation of this Public Service Announcement (PSA). I have worked in a PSA as an actor previously on a project about Racism, and had one scene with two lines, and I enjoyed every moment of the shoot. Yet, to expand into writing a script, formulating a shot list, prepping my actors, meeting with my Directors of Photography, Andre Keith & Victoria Williams, working with two camera, working with child actors, choosing and visiting locations, gathering props, and even being open to change and navigating resistance, and an infinitude of more actions required to manifest the very clear vision in my mind (that was completely altered by the way lol), the aftermath just gives me more to savor.
This is the of Stop The Cycle, a Public Service Announcement (PSA), written, directed and starring award-winning actress and artist, Melody A. T...
