The latest from A Cree In NYC. For those who don't know what it is. When I first moved to NYC I was asked by a few northern newspaper editors at the time to write a column for them about my experience living here. We couldn't come to terms so I decided to start a blog.

Here is my latest and I dedicate it to all the fierce women warriors in our lives now and forever. Its fictional yet based on growing up on my res. As you read, please say a prayer for my niece Shelly who is battling cancer. She is our rock and our heart ~ from Roz and me.

Next up at Indian Road Cafe, in conjunction with "Drums Along the Hudson" and as part of NoMAA's 2017 Uptown Arts Stroll, Indian Road Shows presents "Shield Concept into Circular Canvases," an exhibition of paintings by noted Woodstock, NY-based Native American artist Joseph Kabance. Curated by Jeff Hoppa.

Pictured here, "Standing Rock - 2016", oil on 36" circular canvas, mixed media and three-dimensional elements, with Native Indian/Indigenous themes.

Exhibition opens Saturday, June 3, and runs through Saturday, July 8, 2017. The 15th Annual "Drums Along the Hudson," organized by Lotus Music & Dance, is Sunday, June 4, in next-door Inwood Hill Park.
