I've spent countless hours behind the lens, chasing the golden light of a Punta del Este sunset and the fleeting moments of pure, unbridled sound. For 30 years now, the Festival de Jazz has been my favorite subject. I can still close my eyes and hear it: a trumpet cutting through the twilight, the rhythmic murmur of the crowd, the warm, honest sound of music echoing across the campo.
It all started with a fan's audacious dream-to bring jazz to a dairy farm in Punta Ballena, Francisco Yobino . And what a history we've captured since 1996. The faces, the legends, the feeling of something truly special unfolding in the pasture, far from the clamor of the world.
Now, for the 30th Anniversary, the magic is returning, bigger and better than ever. The first notes have been announced, and the roster is already something to behold. We're talking about the cinematic saxophone of Dayna Stephens, the soul-stirring voice of Brianna Thomas, the visionary piano of Elio Villafranca, and a homecoming for a longtime friend of the festival, the brilliant trumpeter Diego Urcola.
Mark your calendars. The festival's soul is calling.

He pasado incontables horas tras el lente, persiguiendo la luz dorada de un atardecer en Punta del Este y los fugaces momentos de sonido puro y desenfrenado. Durante 30 años, el Festival de Jazz ha sido mi tema favorito. Todavía puedo cerrar los ojos y oírlo: una trompeta cortando el crepúsculo, el murmullo rítmico de la multitud, el sonido cálido y honesto de la música resonando en el campo.
Todo comenzó con el sueño audaz de un aficionado: llevar el jazz a un tambo en Punta Ballena, Francisco Yobino . Y qué historia hemos capturado desde 1996. Los rostros, las leyendas, la sensación de algo verdaderamente especial desarrollándose en la pastura, lejos del clamor del mundo.
Ahora, para el 30.º Aniversario, la magia regresa, más grande y mejor que nunca. Se han anunciado las primeras notas, y el elenco ya es digno de admirar. Hablamos del el piano visionario de Elio Villafranca, este año con su trio , el saxofón de Dayna Stephens, la voz conmovedora de Brianna Thomas, y el regreso a casa de un viejo amigo del festival, el brillante trompetista Diego Urcola.
