Posted @withregram • @boochelnikova Even in the middle of the Russian war of extermination against Ukraine, many people and organizations feel it’s okay to call for reconciliations of Ukrainians and Russians. A lot of people worldwide keep referring to the idea of Ukrainians and Russians being two “brotherly” nations.
These calls are not just tone-deaf. They are hurting thousands of Ukrainians who want justice and peace in their homes.
Trying to befriend average Ukrainians and Russians feels like calling for reconciliation of Jews and Germans in the middle of WW2. It’s abusive and unnecessary. It fails to listen to the victims of this war and identify the source of horrors.
Oh. And did I say these comments are largely based on an old Russian imperialist myth of the “brotherly nations”?
In today’s series of Ukraine Explainers cards, let’s unpack the “brotherly nations” narrative and understand why this is just wrong to try to befriend Ukrainians and Russians while Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine.
