🚨 BREAKING: A normal afternoon in downtown Minneapolis turned into a terrifying situation when gunfire erupted inside a high-rise apartment building.
Police received a 911 call about shots fired shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers arrived less than two minutes later and entered the building, where they quickly found people who had been shot.
As officers moved toward an upper floor, they heard more gunfire. Police said they encountered a haze that made it difficult to see inside the building.
The shooting left two people dead, while the suspected gunman was also found dead. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the suspect or explained exactly how he died.
Five other people were wounded by gunfire. Among them were two Minneapolis police officers. A third officer was also injured during the response, although that injury was not caused by gunfire.
All three injured officers were reported to be in stable condition. Police said they are expected to recover.
One of the civilian victims died at the scene, while another died after being taken to the hospital.
Investigators are now working to piece together what happened inside the apartment building and what led to the shooting. Authorities have not announced a motive.
Police had reportedly been familiar with the suspected gunman before the shooting, but officials have not released further details about that history.
The FBI has also offered assistance as investigators continue processing the scene and gathering evidence.
This remains an active investigation, and more information is expected as authorities learn more.
The victims and their families are now left dealing with the aftermath of a shooting that happened in the middle of a busy Minneapolis neighborhood.
