Join photographer Michael Horowitz at the on Weds., 5/14 for a visual presentation that will fascinate anyone interested in history, architecture, engineering, or urban exploration.

Horowitz has spent 50 years documenting the rapidly disappearing places throughout the Northeast, using his lens to preserve them for our cultural memory. Lights, camera. . . ✨MOXIE✨

Join us at the book launch for “Moxie: The Daring Women of Classic Hollywood” next Friday, 11/8! Authors Ira M. Resnick and Raissa Bretaña will be in conversation with Isabel Custodio of Be Kind Rewind.

A celebration of the fearless, fabulous actresses of Hollywood’s golden age, MOXIE profiles fifteen leading ladies who not only captivated us with their performances, but forged careers on their own terms. These trailblazers—including Louise Brooks, Marlene Dietrich, and Katherine Hepburn—went toe-to-toe with directors and producers at the height of Hollywood’s studio system. Illustrated with film stills, publicity photos, and lobby cards from the world-class collection of Ira M. Resnick, these dazzling photos reveal how these women shaped their images both on-screen and off.

🍃A CHRISTMAS CAROL: Being a Ghost Story of Christmas 🍃

OUT NOW! A hauntingly beautiful volume with original illustrations by artist John A. Rice.

Inspired by the tradition of the midwinter’s tale, Dickens’s seemingly familiar holiday classic is reenvisioned as a true Victorian ghost story. Rice draws on the influence of Victorian Spiritualism and fin de siècle Symbolism to emphasize the deeper symbolism and spirituality of Scrooge’s journey.

This keepsake edition features color illustrations, gilt edges, and a vegan leather binding with deluxe stamping. It’s bound to be a cherished addition to any book lover’s shelf!

Available on Abbeville.com or wherever fine books are sold.

At Abbeville Press, we love art—that’s no secret. But perhaps not all of our readers know that this appreciation stems from the dual passions of our founders, Harry N. Abrams and his son Robert E. Abrams, for art book publishing and art collecting. Their deeply personal engagement with art, and often, the artist, is reflected in the Abbeville catalogue and the breadth of their multi-generational collection. Later this month, Sotheby’s will offer a selection of works from the Abrams Family Collection which embodies the ethos “Art Without Boundaries,” a guiding principle handed down from father to son.

As current publisher David Fabricant, who worked with Bob Abrams for almost twenty years, notes in his essay, there are inherent parallels in the language of the art collector and the publisher: both “acquire” new works. A keen eye is a must. The publisher must both seek out the best that is available, but—like a patron of the arts—also discover and encourage new talent, even commissioning projects to fill lacunae in a field. He recalls a particularly telling refrain of his mentor:

“Clearly the Abbeville list reflects the same drive to explore art in all its variety— “without boundaries”—as we see in the Abrams Family Collection. To range this deeply through art requires a certain experience and maturity; Bob, like his father before him, had lived with enough art and learned enough about art history to come to the simple conclusion that great art has taken many forms, in many contexts. One thing I heard Bob say on several occasions—usually in a tone of wonderment before a new discovery—was, ‘There’s a lot of good art out there!’”
