Shakespeare Re-Told is a brilliant series that masterfully brings Shakespeare’s classic plays into the modern era without losing the essence of the original works. Each episode reimagines a different play with contemporary settings, making the stories feel fresh and accessible to modern audiences while maintaining their timeless appeal. The writing is sharp, and the performances are captivating, with each cast member fully embracing the humor and drama inherent in Shakespeare's world.
Personally, The Taming of the Shrew is one of my all-time favorites in the Shrew genre. BBC did a bang-up job adapting Shakespeare to a modern-day setting while still keeping the original spirit of the story. One of my favorite remakes was the outfit Petruchio wore to the wedding. I was wondering just how they were going to reimagine that iconic moment, and they did not disappoint! Shirley Henderson and Rufus Sewell bring a fantastic energy to their roles, making the characters of Katharina and Petruchio feel both timeless and refreshingly contemporary.
I could go on and on about the things I enjoyed, but I’ll spare you the endless details. Shakespeare Re-Told is an absolute gem. Whether you’re a fan of Shakespeare or new to his work, this series offers something for everyone, with a perfect blend of humor, romance, and brilliant reimagining.
