Intern Spotlight ✨ Joanne Na, ViacomCBS Creative Music & Licensing Strategy Intern

“One of my favorite experiences during the internship was the training sessions with different senior managers and coordinators. It was an amazing chance to both network with others in my department, and to also learn what they do and how they do it.

I enjoyed every bit of my time at ViacomCBS, and Summer 2020 would not have been the same without it!”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Ella Pallenberg, MTV/VH1/CMT & Logo Communications Intern

"Hello! My name is Ella Pallenberg. I am a senior studying Political Science and History at UC Berkeley.

This past summer, I had the opportunity to work in the Communications department for MTV, VH1, CMT + Logo. Throughout the internship, my projects focused on research, writing, and media monitoring. I learned so much from the intern sessions including "The Business of TV", "How to Effectively use LinkedIn", and the "Intern to Employee" panel.

My favorite part was meeting so many young, accomplished professionals through informational interviews. Everyone was so willing to share their experiences and advice.

The ViacomCBS family makes all of their interns feel so welcomed and valued."

Intern Spotlight ✨ Timia Whitsey, MTV/VH1 Development Intern

“I was primarily responsible for creating new show concepts that fit the MTV & VH1 brands. I also researched pop culture trends and presented them in various formats such as pitch decks and visual reports to support the brand’s potential projects.

My favorite experience this summer was coming up with an original show concept and pitching it to my entire team. It was amazing being able to take all of the skills I learned and apply them to this project.

What I loved most about interning at ViacomCBS is the atmosphere. My team felt like family. They were extremely supportive and were always eager to hear my perspective. Being in such a welcoming environment made me feel like I could accomplish anything!”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Shreyas Jadhav, ViacomCBS Machine Learning & Advanced Advertising Intern

“My name is Shreyas and I am a graduate student at Columbia University. I worked as a Machine Learning Intern at ViacomCBS in the Advanced Advertising department.

My responsibilities included working on a program to automate the sequencing of television advertisements as well as using data to evaluate models for personalized recommendations.

My favorite experience at ViacomCBS was participating in the Virtual Community Day where I got an opportunity to express my ideas and help a non-profit organization, Literacy Inc. with their work in helping the community. It was amazing to see ViacomCBS's efforts to help the community and I was honored to be a part of it.

The best part of working at ViacomCBS is that there are a lot of networking opportunities. It was amazing to learn from and work with people having diverse backgrounds across different verticles in the organization. Even though the internship was virtual, I had an amazing time working, especially with the constant support and help from all the awesome people at ViacomCBS!”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Jessie Tsang, BMX Creative Promos Intern

“My name is Jessie Tsang and I’m the summer intern on the BMX Creative Promos team at Nickelodeon working from my home in California. I’m a rising junior at NYU studying Media, Culture, and Communications with a dual focus in Producing, and I’m a member of the @nyuwomensvolley team!

The Creative Promos department produces the show, movies, and brand promotion that you see in the on-air in the commercial bits and on different social media sites. Whether that’s a recap of shows that were aired for the week, or an Instagram post promoting an upcoming episode, or a campaign to show the channels solidarity with different affinity months, we cover it all. As an intern, I sit in on meetings, brainstorm creative ideas, and pull clips for production assistants. During my time here, I’ve gotten the chance to create my own on-air promo!

What’s stood out to me about working here is the culture that people have created here. From the moment I started, everyone has been so welcoming and willing to help you every step of the way. They really want the best for you and look to every corner to bring resources that will make you successful (even virtually)! Nick has also made it a focus to bring all social conversations to children and I’m so honored to work somewhere that emphasizes global literacy. Sometimes people think kids media is just lighthearted and silly, but it’s important to me to show kids diversity at young stages of life.”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Chris Delaney, MTV/VH1 Original Series Intern

“My department is the "hub" of several MTV and VH1 unscripted shows, including Siesta Key and T.I. and Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle. Some of the daily tasks of my department is providing feedback on episode rough cuts, pulling promos for the digital marketing team, and developing decks/pitches for potential new seasons of our shows.

My favorite experience over the course of the summer program at ViacomCBS was participating in the week-long intern hackathon competition where I got to work with an amazing group of fellow interns to develop and pitch a new MTV show idea!

What I loved most about interning over the summer at ViacomCBS was virtually connecting with so many friendly employees and interns. I have learned so much from so many people within the ViacomCBS family- including my awesome mentor circle group!”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Sarah D’Alton, ViacomCBS Trade Marketing Intern

“I am responsible for helping manage the day-to-day interactions of ViacomCBS and our brands from a business-to-business and cross-company perspective. I assist in helping plan the 2021 CBS Super Bowl marketing strategy, conduct competitive streaming research from both a trade and consumer perspective, work with the Content Team in preparing newsroom stories and interviewing employees for the newsroom pieces, project manager tasks such as helping create project and social media campaign timelines, analyze data taken from the ViacomCBS social handles and formulate business recommendations based on the analysis, create biweekly internal newsletters and much more.

My favorite part of my internship has to been able to participate in the planning of the overall strategy for the 2021 Super Bowl to appear on CBS. This has required working closely with the CBS Sports Team and each of the brands to create cross-company synergy ahead of this tent pole event. I loved seeing how this process had unfolded the past two months, growing from just ideas to concrete marketing campaigns.

My internship with the ViacomCBS Trade Marketing Team has broken my expectations in every way possible. My perspective is valued, which is not always the case in every internship. I am able to jump into projects that align with my interests while contributing to the team. I am challenged everyday in my internship, but my managers are very respectful of my time and workload, especially now that my fall semester has started. I am able to work with other interns across the company on projects that both our teams are working on. Every ViacomCBS employee that I have reached out to regarding having a virtual coffee chat or informational has been receptive and more than willing to chat with me.”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Kaylen Luu, ViacomCBS Diversity & Inclusion Intern

“My name is Kaylen Luu, I’m a senior at Macaulay Honors College at Queens College, and I’m a Diversity & Inclusion Intern for @viacomcbs_ogi.

In my role, I assist The Office of Global Inclusion in planning, organizing, and executing employee engagement initiatives with our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). At the start of the internship in June, I dived right into supporting Pride Month, as well as supporting The Office of Global Inclusion and the company’s efforts in building community and combatting racial injustice.

Currently, the company is gearing up for Inclusion Week at the end of September. Hosted exclusively and globally for all ViacomCBS employees, Inclusion Week consists of informative, immersive, and interactive sessions designed to spark 'aha' moments and thoughtful dialogue on diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Diversity and inclusion have always been important, but we are in a time in our world where it means everything. I’m honored to work on a team and at a company that firmly believes in these values as we all continue to learn and grow together.”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Michelle Chan, Comedy Central/Paramount Network/TV Land Research Intern

“My name is Michelle Chan and I am a junior at Temple University. I'm currently the research intern for Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land.

My responsibilities include analyzing Nielsen data to determine trends and how a TV show is performing compared to last season. I also assist with the weekly deck that gets presented by producing a ranker of the top telecasts of the week and research about shows from competitors. It's definitely interesting to see how our data can impact the programming, strategy, or acquisitions team!

My favorite experience so far was working on a group project where we created a stunt pitch for a cultural moment on Comedy Central. A honorable mention is also the intern focus groups where other interns and I spoke about our perspective on news consumption and The Daily Show.

The best part of ViacomCBS is the flexibility within the company and ability to learn from anyone in any department! I've been been lucky enough to also help with projects in the consumer insights department which lets me see the bigger picture of different brands! I'm surprised by how hands-on the interns are and how seamless the transition to a virtual internship was. Even virtually, I can feel the culture at ViacomCBS and how supportive they are for interns to grow!”

Intern Spotlight ✨ Miranda Church, CBSi Production Intern (GameSpot)

“My name is Miranda Church, I am a Senior studying Animation at Chapman University, and I am a Production Intern for @gamespot at CBS Interactive in San Francisco, CA.

I have the pleasure to contribute to the development and production of a variety of projects, write scripts, edit videos, narrate voiceover, create research write-ups, and design motion graphics, thumbnails, and my own series pitch deck. I have already learned so much and I’m ecstatic to keep working with the fantastic ViacomCBS team!”

Intern Spotlight | Lorraine Wheat, CBSi Video Production Intern✨

“I am responsible for picture editing social videos for the @cbsallaccess brand handle, and supporting the creative producers and picture editors with clip research, brainstorming, and pitching. As a result, I co-creatively produced an "I Love Lucy" social video that was released on International Day of Friendship, and picture edited and produced a social piece for "Star Trek: Discovery." Now my role has evolved to supporting "Big Brother" Season 22.

My favorite moment with @cbsinteractive Interactive was honestly working on the intern expo project. My supervisor Angela Sostre assigned me a team that included Production Coordinator Alex Hackwork and Emmy-award winning Studio Production Manager Jason Osborne. I then directed a zoom production starring Social Intern Kennedy Mason interviewing Social Analyst Laura Dorado about CBS Interactive's first launch on TikTok.

I love collaborating with the experts working at CBS Interactive, and I am so surprised by the work that I have been able to create. My team has encouraged me to be a contributor, and I am so happy I speak up whenever I have an idea because I have been able to not only create work that I am proud of, but contribute to the success of the team.”

College students, are you looking to intern at Viacom this fall? The Viacom Internship Program is recruiting fall interns now through July 20th. Apply here! https://bit.ly/1dNSTD0
Are there fewer department listings in the summer than fall and spring? I am applying for the CMT Internship and I was hoping to work in the department with CMT Radio. I saw that that was an option in the Spring. but it is not in the department listings for the summer. In fact, there were a quite a few others not listed that were previously available that are in my area of expertise, such as marketing and Hot 20 Countdown. I have a lot of experience in radio and I would really like to work with Cody Alan. Will this department and the other departments open back up in next fall's application? I have based my major strictly off of this CMT internship, and if those departments do not become available I need to consider changing. Please reply, thank you!
