Solo Exhibition ‘Mind Notes’ Rüki Galerii

Eiko Ojala presents his first solo exhibition in Estonia.

Best known for his illustrations for The New Yorker, TIME, The New York Times and National Geographic, Eiko creates images that look as though they have been cut and constructed from paper light and shadow to give them a physical sense of depth.

For Mind Notes, Eiko steps away from commissioned illustration to make something more personal. It’s artworks about exploring how the spaces around us can affect how we feel. Human figures interact with simple geometric spaces. Bending and sinking and pressing into and against their surroundings.

Also. There’s something genuinely exciting about seeing Christian Montenegro return to hand-drawn image-making.

For Life & Work of Some Clouds, Christian exchanges photoshop & illustrator for pencils, stencils and a beautifully restricted palette.

Turning clouds into horses, polar bears, thieves, travellers, pirates, omens and entire imaginary worlds.

The result is strange and poetic and completely his own.
