Our dad didn't just leave usโ€”he cheated on our mom for years with a woman from work. Dana. It destroyed everything. My little brother Owen, 12, took it the hardest. He saw our mom fall apart. I'll never forget him whispering, "Does Dad love her more than us?"

When Dad announced his wedding, he acted like nothing had happened.

Then one day, I accidentally saw a message on her phone from a stranger:

"DON'T TELL ERIC YET. WE'LL FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT TOGETHER."

Eric. That's me.

I didn't confront her.

Instead, I risked it and texted the number:

"COME TOMORROW AT 7 P.M. ERIC WON'T BE HOME."

I was in labor for 19 hours. It was a nightmare. Soon, a $9,347 hospital bill showed up โ€” with my name on it. I thought my husband John and I would at least split it because I gave birth to OUR daughter, not just mine.

But he just took one look and said, โ€œYour bill, your problem. They served YOU.โ€

I thought he was joking. He wasnโ€™t.

I reminded him: โ€œI gave birth to OUR daughter, not got a massage.โ€

He shrugged. โ€œI already buy diapers and formula. Iโ€™m not paying for that too.โ€

For context, he earns a bit more than me, but ever since I started unpaid maternity leave, he treats every expense like a favor.
