"I got an amazing phone call, out of the blue, from Robert Blackson, who runs the contemporary art gallery at Temple University. He told me that he had somehow – miraculously – gotten access to all the broken instruments in the Philadelphia public school system, and he asked if I had any interest in writing something for them."

This Friday at Doghead Dough Pizza in Whitesburg, KY, we'll be holding a portrait studio & recipe / remedy exchange, inspired by our Mosaic Interactive project and our partners at Cowan Community Center and Appalshop. Counting down to #BigEars2019! mosaicinteractive.org

Have a favorite family recipe for apple pie? Your grandmother's tried and tested cure for the common cold? The secret to mending a broken heart? This Friday, come to Doghead Dough Pizza in Whitesburg to share your remedies, recipes & memories, and receive a photographic keepsake!

On Friday, March 8 from 3 - 6 pm, Mosaic Interactive invites the Letcher County community to drop by 272 Main Street (in the former Dawahares building) for a Portrait Studio and exchange of local Remedies and Recipes. Bring a story, a memory, or an item that represents your remedy/recipe for your portrait, and receive a souvenir photograph. Afterwards, a community dinner will be held at the CANE Kitchen starting at 7pm.

The first community meal hosted by Mosaic will take place Tuesday, March 5 at the Cowan Community Center at 7pm. These events are free and open to all!

The Photo Studio & Exchange and community meals are part of a week long visit by MOSAIC Interactive, an international artists exchange led by Found Sound Nation. The team of artists from Morocco, Turkey, Indonesia, Palestine, Lebanon, South Africa and the U.S. are creating original works that tell stories of what we as humans hold sacred, and how we pass this along to future generations. These works premiere in March 2019, with a tour of East Kentucky, West Virginia and East Tennessee, where artists will spend one week in each location and participate in community-led public events and dances, musical jams, and potlucks. In Whitesburg, the group is visiting with Appalshop, CANE, and the Cowan Community Center.

WORKS — Mosaic

Check out the 'Works' section of our new Mosaic site, which talks about the development of our new pieces for Big Ears Festival.

Using original music and visuals inspired by the nighttime dreams and daydreams of a group of children living along the West Bank wall in Palestine, Dreams is an exploration of how the unbound imaginative world of children washes up against and over the physical wall that surrounds their society.
