The last of our collaborative releases with Beirut’s @thawrarecords is out now. The two track Baada ab EP comes with a beautiful video by director @adamjammal for “Bi Kheir”. It’s been a privilege to build upon connections made through our @onebeatlebanon program last summer and see the continued evolution of this talented crew. Many thanks to @etyenmusic for pushing this project forward through during difficult times in Lebanon. Link in our bio to watch the full video / listen to the EP.
‘What does Beirut feel like in this age of madness? Crisis upon crisis, blow after blow.... economic collapse, oppressed uprising, global pandemic, world-scale explosion, I think we've become a bit numb. And a bit mad, ourselves.’ Bi Kheir”, meaning “I’m okay”, captures the voices of the survivors in the few moments after the explosion, recounting each of the first conversations that the band members had with family and friends after surviving one of the largest non-nuclear explosion in human history. The looming question is “am I really okay?”.

In April 2022, Street Studio India brought together socially-engaged producers based in India and the U.S. for a collaborative exchange program centered around the “street studio” -- a methodology developed by Found Sound Nation that takes the basic elements of the music studio to a public place, making the process accessible to anyone in the surrounding community. Over the course of 5 weeks, Street Studio India producers shared production skills, innovated on the street studio methodology, and led independent projects in their respective regions to create original collaborative tracks.

We are excited to announce the return of our in-person OneBeat US residency this Spring (April 18th - May 9th) at The Atlantic Center for The Arts, FL. This ninth edition of OneBeat US will bring together 21 diverse artists from 12 countries & territories to explore the theme of Sonic Imaginaries.
In her research, pioneering musician Pauline Oliveros, described the tendency for contemporary culture to prioritize visual over aural spheres—even in our imagination. As a new fellowship of OneBeat artists comes together, we will ask them to explore the sound of imagination and prioritize their “mind’s ear”, a distinctive under-researched form of self-knowledge and possibility. This is a unique moment in time that has many emerging from pandemic isolation while others recede into new forms of isolation caused by conflict and threats to free expression. This cohort of OneBeat Fellows will enter spaces of collaboration that allow their aural imaginations to freely share diverse perspectives and imagine new sonic futures together.
In the past ten years of the program we have seen the OneBeat mission become a reality, far beyond our initial expectations. As we celebrate a decade of the OneBeat program, we are so pleased and honored to welcome a new cohort to our vibrant, growing OneBeat community!
Learn more about the cohort on our OneBeat 9 program page: https://1beat.org/program/onebeat-9/

A collaboration between Beirut-based singer-songwriter Mayssa Jallad & Syrian musician & producer Khaled Allaf, “Madina min Baeed” is the first of the co-release series by Thawra Records & Found Sound Nation. In just three days, the single comes out with a music video by award-winning filmmaker Ely Dagher.
A singer, songwriter, activist and local main-stay in the music and arts scene, Mayssa Jallad has risen to prominence through her outstanding songwriting, breathtaking vocal performances and engaging lyricism, which deal with the highly personal as well as the political, achieving notable success, whether solo or through her Indie band Safar.
Jallad presents her unwavering artistry yet again in Madina min Baeed, teaming up with Syrian prolific Oud player, electronic artist and producer, Khaled Allaf. With this work, Allaf showcases class and a refined electronic composition & production that is at once minimal, and yet teeming with texture & depth. Expertly delivering the goods, the pair aurally paint an accurate picture of the uneasy Beirut air, and create an enchanting & entrancing piece, which at first glance may seem flirtatious and inviting, while in truth, captures the tired voice of a city on the brink.'
