Meher-e-Khun School of Music, organized by Elena Park

We just launched a GoFundMe to help OneBeat alum Wajahat Shah Aalmi construct a new arts center set in the mountains of the Karakorum Range in Pakistan. Meher-e-Khun will educate and share music and creative expression philosophies with future generations through a school and residency, especially focusing on supporting underserved women and non-male musicians.

Wajahat began constructing this amazing school on his own dime, with support from a few close connections, but now needs our help! Please share or donate if you can (even $1 can provide one brick for the walls of this new space).

The OneBeat Podcast - Listen Local. Hear Global.

The OneBeat Podcast features conversations with musicians and artist leaders around the globe as we ask the question at the heart of OneBeat’s philosophy: Does music and creative collaboration make an impact in the world? How is our global community of musical leaders affecting change?

In this first season of the podcast, we journey to different corners of the world to connect with some of the remarkable artists that have been through our OneBeat Program. They share their inspirations, challenges, stories, and discuss the different ways that they have used music and the arts to impact their communities. Check out our first 5 episodes, including the newest episode with Ghanaian spoken word artist & songstress, Poetra Asantewa. Available on all streaming platforms and via our podcast page on Simplecast.

For four hours on May 2, the OneBeat Marathon will share the power of music and tap into the most urgent and essential sounds of our time. From the Kyrgyz three-stringed komuz played on the high steppe, to the tranceful marimba de chonta of Colombia’s pacific shore, to the Algerian Amazigh highlands and to the trippy organic beats of Bombay’s underground scene — OneBeat finds a unifying possibility of sound that ties us all together.

OneBeat, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by Found Sound Nation, is redefining music diplomacy. For the past decade, OneBeat residency programs have convened young pioneering musicians from across the world to dive into the musical unknown together and build a global network of artists committed to civic discourse. This event is part a year-long celebration of online events and programs to commemorate OneBeat’s 10th anniversary.

The OneBeat Marathon will be free to stream and all Marathon performers are compensated. But an entire ecosystem of composers and performers need our attention, our love, and our financial support! Please consider purchasing a ticket! Doing so will help Bang on a Can to do more performances, pay more players, and share more music worldwide.

Congratulations to two of our very favorite guitarists Biodun Kuti Music and Mark Stewart on receiving a grant from Cafe Royal Cultural Foundation! We were lucky to have a hand in connecting these two during our OneBeat program way back in 2013, before they went on to tour the world together with Paul Simon. We have exciting things brewing with Mark and Biodun coming later this year 💫
