Techonomy’s name embodies our beliefs and our mission—it combines the words “technology” and “economy” because technology is a central part of the economy in which we operate and the society in which we live. We see technology as inextricably entwined with just about every activity that humans undertake, and seek as a company to help the world, and especially business leaders, take advantage of it

. Techonomy casts its lens broadly across technology, business and society. We believe that all leaders should, in effect, become technologists. We seek conversation at the highest level about the potential for technology and business to drive social progress. We host conferences and create content to explore the pace of change, and what it means. For more information, please visit http://techonomy.com, or our other social platforms.

afternoon panels taught us just how connected every industry is to climate change, and how different companies tackle environmental advocacy.

Daniela Fernandez of VELAMAR joined Jim McCann of Worth Media Group & 1-800Flowers to explore how capital can drive ocean solutions. “Movement changes culture, and capital changes systems,” said Fernandez, highlighting the need to align mainstream investment with ocean health.

Caitlin MacLean of the Milken Institute and Francis Bouchard of Marsh McLennan highlighted that resilience will require cross-sector collaboration, investment, and new financial tools. “There’s a growing awareness, not just within the insurance sector, but all the peripheral sectors and also the NGO community, that insurance has to be part of the answer” , emphasized Bouchard.

Sara Enright of Consumer Reports and Emily Forlini of PCMag explored the role of consumers in driving energy standards. “We did a survey to find out: do people support mandatory energy efficiency standards for their appliances? And 88% of Americans responded yes. And yet these standards are still under attack,” noted Enright.

Kim Wilson of McLaren Racing and Anna Marsden of Great Barrier Reef Foundation shared how Formula 1 innovation is being harnessed to create machines to help recover and repopulate coral reefs. “We’ll be proving that we can plant, out of one of these micro-hubs, a million corals. That’s the acceleration point that’s happened because of McLaren,” said Marsden.

The Environmental Defense Fund had a powerful presence at this year’s , highlighting how collaboration can drive systemic change in both fisheries and food systems.

Buddy Guindon of Katie’s Seafood Market and Amanda Leland of EDF told the remarkable story of how unlikely allies—fishermen and environmentalists—came together to transform Gulf fisheries. Though admittedly reluctant, Buddy now refers to it "the best vote he ever lost." What was once the “deadliest job in America” became safer, more profitable, and more sustainable through catch share systems. “When you fish against each other, you’re not friends. When you fish together, when you build a community system together, you’re all friends,” said Guindon. The shift not only reduced expenses by 80% in just months and doubled fish prices, but also left the Gulf healthier than ever.

In Rethinking Food Systems for the Planet, Britt Groosman and Amy Todd Middleton of EDF joined journalist Michael Grunwald to explore bold strategies for sustainable agriculture. As Grunwald reminded us: “Perfect is not always on the menu, but better is better than worse.” The session underscored how collective, practical action can reshape our food systems for resilience in a warming world.
Together, EDF showed how courage, collaboration, and a willingness to “sit down with someone you may not otherwise agree with” can unlock lasting solutions for people and the planet.

NY Climate Week has officially concluded. Here are some more of our favorite takeaways from panels

Navier CEO Sampriti Bhattacharyya unveiled a cleaner vision for maritime travel: “Maritime—shipping, power boats, ferries, water taxis—contributes 3% of all greenhouse gasses. It’s the 6th largest polluter, more than aviation, and more than the country of Germany.” Her hydrofoiling electric boats have 0-emissions, unlocking a new era of sustainable transportation. Check out just how cool they are: [website]

Ryan Panchadsaram of Speed & Scale, Sonia Aggarwal of Energy Innovation, and Mark Patel of McKinsey mapped out bold pathways to net zero. As Panchadsaram noted, “The sky is the limit right now because we’re behind on finding the best pathway to zero emissions on our needed materials. The need is defined, and the magnitude of impact is massive.” Discover which areas need investments most, for both innovation imperatives and exciting moonshots.

John Mennel of Deloitte and Lyndsay Harris-Kyei of ServiceNow explored how AI can accelerate sustainability goals. As Mennel noted, “Success will be about people in the end. The technical skills will be important, but the soft skills like creativity and curiosity will be the strengths.” Harris-Kyei chimed in that she has more optimism in collective action.

Kabir Daya, Chief Digital & Marketing Officer at Thriveworks, emphasized the importance of keeping people at the center of healthcare innovation: “We call this process human-in-the-loop because keeping it human-centered is essential." AI's role is not to replace humans, but to reduce disparities in healthcare by expanding access, improving personalization, and closing digital divides.

We had a great time at on Wednesday. Here are some of our favorite takeaways from the first 4 panels.

“Don’t underestimate how lost people feel in terms of what actions they can take." Miranda Massie of the Climate Museum demonstrated how art can move hearts more effectively than data, transforming climate anxiety into action. The takeaway? The majority of people are activated but paralyzed by fear. What they need most in this moment is support and a clear path forward.

A scientist, a storyteller, an educator and a policymaker teamed up to tackle the biggest climate question: how to spur others into action. The power of partnerships was clearly emphasized by David Gruber of Project CETI, Meredith McDermott of NYC Public Schools, Jennifer Williams of Take Action Global, and Alexander Lazarou of Getty Images, moderated by Junmian Sun of Shorty Awards.

Stephen Hammer, Founding CEO of the New York Climate Exchange, explored how urban hubs can spark collaboration and innovation. “What was missing was a space for conversation, not just for those that opt in on a regular basis, but we want even our accidental visitors to be engaged in meaningful ways.”

PepsiCo CSO Jim Andrew highlighted how regenerative agriculture and ecosystem restoration are shaping the future of food. “Having a sustainable food system that is able to be resilient in extreme weather events is critical, so we’re working towards a goal of regenerative practices along with protecting and restoring lands of 10m acres.” The company understands that best practices for climate action are also best for the future of business.

“The Future of the Food System” panel dug into how climate action, innovation, and collaboration can reshape what we eat and how it’s grown.

With PepsiCo CSO Jim Andrew and Jim McCann of 1-800Flowers, the message was clear: farmers are at the heart of building sustainable systems.
