Imagine that. Living in a nation that cared more about its people than racial capitalism. How much better would the world be? But maybe that sounds too much like right... 💯🤷🏾‍♂️

Never in my lifetime have I seen so many major corporations promoting the celebration of Juneteenth (aka Black Freedom Day). These symbolic gestures are cool. BUT we still demand the end of police violence, a dismantling of institutional oppression, and immediate economic reparations for centuries of enslavement and the truncation of possibilities for Black citizens. So miss me with all the trendy gestures & these outlandish marketing ploys to exploit Black dollars. And let’s see these billionaire CEOs, plutocrats, and kente-cloth politicians engage in actioned change and cut Black folks some “Juneteenth” reparations checks— with interest. In that order...

Sorry, not sorry. It’s not a few bad apples. The tree is rotten at the roots. And the tragedies we’re facing bring to the forefront clear and present injustices that Black Americans have faced every day for generations. There is a critical need for a vital confrontation with systemic racism. If America is the greatest country in the world how are we not leading in the most important categories? Why is our police the most lethal of the so-called developed nations? By a long shot. Something is broken. The numbers speak for themselves. (Data collected from CNN & NYT)

Welcome to the 21st Century...where the American dream remains a nightmare. How many more times does this have to happen before real change is implemented? Where can you turn for safety if you’re Black? #RayshardBrooks did not deserve to die. Nor did BreonnaTaylor. Or any of the countless Black citizens who’ve lost their lives to these state-sanctioned extrajudicial murders. What is the cost of America’s continued refusal to acknowledge Black humanity? The end of an empire is upon us. Wake up now or be forever lost...

What is justice? Seriously. What does justice really look like for Black-Americans in the wake of national uprisings following the killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and countless other Black citizens? Is justice seeing the cops arrested? Is justice seeing the killers convicted? What's the end game? What does victory look like? Today, the one true victory for Black-Americans must be economic reparations for centuries of enslavement and systemic racism. Reparations is the only victory, which must also include a formal apology from the U.S. government to Black citizens. This is not unprecedented. The U.S. paid reparations to the Japanese. There would be no America without the undeniable contributions of Black folks. And yet, this nation has systematically engaged Black-Americans in an abuse of opportunity and truncation of possibilities that has led us to this very dire moment. Reparations must be paid to Black descendants of the enslaved if America is ever to move forward and heal its festering wounds.

Today marks the final day of my #EducateToLiberate thought campaign. Day 9 of me sharing educational resources as a direct action for people to share with others or to utilize themselves as tools to develop (and help others develop) a deeper understanding of “whiteness” as a political system of power (i.e., systemic racism) and what we must do to dismantle it. To be silent is to take the side of the oppressors. I refuse to be silent. I refuse to be silenced. We all have a role in this rebirthing. I will lift my voice until true justice rolls down like waters…

It's easy to be "outraged" when the lights are bright and when the cameras are on. But what you do when no one else can see you is the true measure of character. Where you go from here is what matters. What are you going to do next? Acknowledging is the first step, but it most certainly is not the last. America has profited and thrived from this toxic systemic racist culture and at the root of that is capitalism. In other words, racism and capitalism go hand and hand. One cannot exist without the other. We must completely reimagine what it means to be alive. What it means to be safe. What it means to be a citizen. And what it means to be truthful. The answer to these questions will determine where we go from here.

#EducateToLiberate Day 8: I’m sharing these educational resources as a direct action for people to share with others or to utilize themselves as tools to develop (and help others develop) a deeper understanding of “whiteness” as a political system of power (i.e., systemic racism) and what we must do to dismantle it. To have seen all that we have seen in 2020, it should devastate you. It should make you question everything you've ever been taught in any school. It should make you question what have we become as a nation. It should make you realize how far we must still travel to achieve true liberty for Black citizens. The disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on Black communities, the record unemployment among Black citizens is shameful. What we are seeing in the streets across the nation (and the world) is the feeling of collective anguish and frustration after century upon century of Black people being forced to endure the most miserable conditions in this nation. No longer can anyone revel in the myths of American freedom and exceptionalism. We know better. Now it's time to do better.

The police state and police violence against Black citizens is a major problem in America. However, at the heart of modern policing policies and practices is "whiteness" as an invisible political system of power, in other words, systemic racism. "Whiteness" as an invisible racist system permeates everything in America, from the criminal justice system to health care, from banking and housing to electoral politics and education. Defunding the police is only one small step. The uprising in this nation maintains the ultimate and singular goal of dismantling whiteness as a corrupt system of oppression that has thwarted opportunities for Black survival since this country's inception. #EducateToLiberate Day 6: I’m sharing these educational resources as a direct action for people to share with others or to utilize themselves as tools to develop (and help others develop) a deeper understanding of “whiteness” as a political system of power (i.e., systemic racism) and what we must do to dismantle it. Even in the midst of a national and global denunciation of state-sanctioned police violence against unarmed Black citizens, it's clear that too many police can't seem to help but overstep boundaries of lawfulness. From tasing college students in their car in Atlanta to ripping off the mask of a protestor and spraying him with mace in NYC. To shoving an eldering man to the ground and cracking his skull in Buffalo. And all this occurs when the cameras are ON. These acts of police violence are far too commonplace. That is a major part of the problem we're facing. It shouldn't be hard to imagine the atrocities that take place under the cloak of darkness when no one else can see. And it's time to end the banal platitude claiming that the police violence against Black people is the result of a "few bad apples." I thought one "bad apple" spoiled the bunch? And if so many "bad apples" continue to be produced then common sense tells us there has to be something wrong with the TREE. The tree must be rotten. The tree must be toxic. I'm just saying... #EducateToLiberate Day 5: I’m sharing these educational resources as a direct action for people to share with others or to utilize themselves as tools to develop (and help others develop) a deeper understanding of “whiteness” as a political system of power (i.e., systemic racism) and what we must do to dismantle it. Systemic racism is NOT a Black problem. Systemic racism is a white problem. Black people did NOT invent racism. But we know full well that it exists, and we can tell you the countless ways it impacts our lives and the nation. And now (finally) the whole world is seeing how the sadistic structures of systemic racism function. It is not the responsibility of Black citizens to “solve” the catastrophe of racism. This problem is on white people. They must do the work. They must do the heavy lifting. They must develop solutions and talk to one another about how this nation can atone. That’s what needs to change. Not Black people. Take a look at these resources and educate yourselves and educate others to bring about actionable and sustainable changes in policy, in practice, and in every aspect of social life. There is much work to do. And it will be done!
#EducateToLiberate Day 4: I’m sharing these educational resources as a direct action for people to share with others or to utilize themselves as tools to develop (and help others develop) a deeper understanding of “whiteness” as a political system of power (i.e., systemic racism) and what we must do to dismantle it. Let's be clear. It is NOT enough to be "non-racist." For this nation to be reborn we must be "ANTI-RACIST." Secondly, let’s understand that systemic racism is, in fact, not about race. Not at all. It's about power. Who has it. And who does not. And those who have power in this society and in the West (generally) go to great lengths to keep all "Others" on the margins of that power. So when we speak of Black and white, what we're really talking about is power-relations in a given society. And the increasingly militarized police action is only a single manifestation of the practices those in power use to demonstrate their corrupt authority. So when we speak of systemic racism what we are really talking about is the construction of "whiteness" as a system of power. As a political system. As a largely invisible structure that seeks to dominate every aspect of our lives--- at all costs. What we are now bearing witness to in the streets is the removal of the veil of invisibility--- the calling out and denunciation of "whiteness" as the locus of power and the dominant social position.

#EducateToLiberate Day 3: sharing these educational resources as a direct action for people to share with others or to utilize themselves as tools to develop (and help others develop) a deeper understanding of “whiteness” as a political system of power (i.e., systemic racism) and what we must do to dismantle it.
