In 2014, Girls Varsity Soccer had never made it to the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) Championship. Three years later, the team claims three consecutive appearances in the championship game and two consecutive championship victories. Earlier this evening, GVS defeated Riverdale 2-1 at Manhattanville College to win the 2017 Girls Soccer NYSAIS Tournament.

This issue of The Daltonian has been months in the making.

We've got a long list of people to thank for this issue, starting with Spectrum, Ms. Fonte, the administration and, of course, our fantastic staff and faculty advisor, Mr. Mak.

In this issue, we zero in on visibility, its importance, and what it looks like within our community. For our feature, we present a comprehensive analysis of The Daltonian’s Gender and Sexuality Survey, and we are lucky enough to include some of the transcripts of the personal and touching coming-out stories that members of the Dalton faculty shared at High School Assembly. Also, check out our coverage of events such as Dalton’s 2016 Visibility Exhibit and gender and sexuality in Dalton's curriculum in the News Section.

We hope that, through this issue, we offer an additional perspective on issues of gender and sexuality and further the conversation at Dalton regarding these incredibly important and nuanced issues.

Hi everyone!

We hope this doesn’t jolt you from the last stretch of summer, but as this year’s Editors-in-Chief, we wanted to kick things off by introducing our vision for the paper this year.

The Daltonian turns 82 this year. In addition to celebrating another year of student journalism, design and hard work in print, we hope to bring the paper one step closer to becoming a thriving digital publication. We’ve created a new Digital Team, and designated sections of our staff to generating content that will be available exclusively on our website. You’ll find everything from behind-the-scenes interviews, to breaking news stories, to interactive graphics that will accompany articles, delivered first to the website.

In the meantime, check out what’s already available at www.daltonian.org. With your Dalton login, you’ll be able to see 4 years worth of content: archives, articles, and galleries.

Look forward to our print issues, as well. We’re revamping our production cycle, energizing our staff and focusing on quality over quantity. We’re pushing for more Dalton-centric articles, and more opinion pieces – we want to hear Dalton’s voice.

All this and more will kick off with the publication of Issue 1 during the first week of school. We’ll see you in September!

Here’s to an exceptional year,

Editors-in-Chief 2015 – 2016
Angie Cui, Devin Plumb and Charlotte Watts
