So two days ago I was sitting out in the back of my hotel room at the Virginian Resort in Winthrop Washington, just relaxing after finishing our afternoon set at the Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival, when I heard this beautiful sound of a muted trumpet drifting through the air. I thought to myself, “Somebody is playing some really nice stuff either on the radio or perhaps I’m hearing it from the festival in the distance.” when suddenly the sound started getting closer. All the sudden this guy comes walking around the corner with his trumpet. He saw me and quickly asked if he was disturbing me, to which I replied, “Absolutely not, I was just enjoying the beautiful sounds I was hearing.”
He recognized me and introduced himself. “Joe-Mack and I’m warming up for my gig tonight with The Proven Ones.” I explained that I was super excited to catch their set. After we chatted for a bit, Joe walked down a few hundred feet away from me and continued warming up. I couldn’t resist.. I walked down to Joe and asked if he would like me to grab my guitar and provide him with some rhythm to warm up to. “Absolutely!” he said.
This resulted in an impromptu jam that lasted for about 40 mins. Just Joe and myself sitting there meeting and jamming for the first time with the beautiful river flowing behind us. I took a little video to capture the moment. I look forward to crossing paths again with Joe-Mack.
