Being released in early 2019, audiences will finally rediscover Charles Burnett’s TO SLEEP WITH ANGER, thanks to @britishfilminstitute and @criterioncollection , from our friends at Criterion, “A slow-burning masterwork of the early 1990s, this third feature by Charles Burnett is a singular piece of American mythmaking. In a towering performance, Danny Glover plays the enigmatic southern drifter Harry, a devilish charmer who turns up out of the blue on the South Central Los Angeles doorstep of his old friends. In short order, Harry’s presence turns a seemingly peaceful household upside down, exposing smoldering tensions between parents and children, tradition and change, virtue and temptation. Interweaving evocative strains of gospel and blues with rich, poetic-realist images, To Sleep with Anger is a sublimely stirring film from an autonomous artistic sensibility, a portrait of family resilience steeped in the traditions of black mysticism and folklore.”
@criterioncollection re-release of David Byrne’s TRUE STORIES is on stores now, for your holiday blessings! #truestories #davidbyrne #criterioncollection #johngoodman #musical “Music icon David Byrne was inspired by tabloid headlines to make his sole foray into feature-film directing, an ode to the extraordinariness of ordinary American life and a distillation of what was in his own idiosyncratic mind. The Talking Heads front man plays a visitor to Virgil, Texas, who introduces us to the citizens of the town during preparations for its Celebration of Specialness. As shot by cinematographer Ed Lachman, Texas becomes a hyperrealistic late-capitalist landscape of endless vistas, shopping malls, and prefab metal buildings. In True Stories, Byrne uses his songs to stitch together pop iconography, voodoo rituals, and a singular variety show—all in the service of uncovering the rich mysteries that lurk under the surface of everyday experience.”
Thanks @criterioncollection #kinolove to you and #briandepalma. —————222222——— reframe “For his first bloody stab at horror, Brian De Palma unleashed a diabolical pair of Siamese twins, head-spinning split-screen effects, lots of knives and shadows, and a Bernard Herrmann score for the ages. Out today, our edition of SISTERS ramps up the chill factor with a brand-new restoration and a slew of supplemental features!”

!!!! Year 2 !!!!
In its first year, the Spirit of Ramanujan Global Math Talent Search rewarded eight mathematicians. The search revealed undiscovered mathematics talent and matched the winners with advancement opportunities. The winners hailed from China, Egypt, India, Kenya, and the United States. Due to the success of the pilot program, the initiative has just launched its second annual campaign (Details here: https://www.expii.com/ramanujan)
The creators of the Spirit of Ramanujan Math Talent Search were inspired by the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan, a gifted mathematician and the subject of the The Man Who Knew Infinity. In 1913, Ramanujan, a poor Hindu college dropout who was self-taught in mathematics, reached out to renowned British mathematician G.H. Hardy in his search for mathematical peers and colleagues. Hardy was so astonished by Ramanujan's mathematical theories that he invited Ramanujan to Cambridge to study and collaborate. From the start, Ramanujan was fighting against the odds because of his poverty, his location, and the inflexibility of formal schooling. Yet with his brilliant mind, his dreams, and the support of the mathematical community, he defied those odds and went on to change the future of mathematics. Together with Hardy, Ramanujan innovated vast tracts of mathematics before returning to India in fragile health. Tragically, he died at 32, leaving three enigmatic notebooks that drive cutting-edge research to this day.
