Inside Convene’s Biggest Location

There was a time when people worked without steam rooms or snack bars — but that is the workplace of yesteryear, and most landlords in the city are being forced to step up their game. The rise of coworking and flexible workspace providers in New York City has redefined the office leasing market and workplace culture, and it has put traditional office property landlords in something of a complex position. https://buff.ly/2FQaain

The Long-Coming Largest American Mall Another Step Closer

Rome wasn't built in a day, and the next property to take the title of largest mall in the United States won't be either. The American Dream Miami was proposed about three years ago and might not be complete until after the mid-2020s. But the property is now closer to realization, with work set to begin on a critical piece of infrastructure necessary for the project. https://buff.ly/2KQ7dCu

We were thrilled to have Senator Tim Scott join us at our Opportunity Zones Summit this past Wednesday, interviewed by Develop Founder Steve Glickman.

When asked about how we can ensure Opportunity Zones are truly helping the communities it aims to serve, Senator Scott simply said: “I’m positive that if the opportunity zone program isn’t benefiting the communities it’s meant for, I’ll kill the program,” before walking off stage.

You can read our coverage of the event here: https://bit.ly/2YenV1D

#OpportunityZones have the potential to power the future for so many distressed communities, great to talk about the path forward with Steve Glickman at the Bisnow Opportunity Zones Summit.

Property Values In Opportunity Zones Have Risen 20%

Property sale prices in opportunity zones have risen by 20% since they were chosen by state legislatures in April 2018, according to a new Zillow study reported by World Property Journal. That stands in stark contrast to the census tracts that were eligible to be selected based on 2010 census income data but weren't. Those left-behind properties saw their sale prices slow in appreciation, as did ineligible tracts. https://buff.ly/2Uyvgub

'The Changing Of The Guard': Atlanta C-Suites Are Getting Younger, Fast

Don Miller is almost 57, but he is turning over the keys to the $2.5B REIT he runs to 43-year-old Brent Smith.

At the start of the year, Colin Connolly, 42, took over as CEO at Cousins Properties from Larry Gellerstedt, who is in his early 60s.

And at Newmark Knight Frank, Executive Vice President Sean Moynihan, 48, took over heading the Atlanta office from Brett Hunsaker, 59, who left the firm in February.

These are three of the latest examples of younger blood taking top roles at commercial real estate companies. And as C-suites grow younger, so too does the way business is conducted. https://buff.ly/2HW5lpG

Younger executives are reflecting better a millennial workforce and their desires for what they want in a career.
