#Stephen Hawking#, renowned scientist, dies at 76

Stephen W. Hawking, the British theoretical physicist who overcame a devastating neurological disease to probe the greatest mysteries of the cosmos and become a globally celebrated symbol of the power of the human mind, has died at his home in Cambridge, England. He was 76.

His family announced the death but did not provide any further details.

Unable to move a muscle, speechless but for a computer-synthesized voice, Dr. Hawking had suffered since the age of 21 from a degenerative motor neuron disease similar to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Initially given two years to live, a diagnosis that threw him into a profound depression, he found the strength to complete his doctorate and rise to the position of Lucasian professor of mathematics at the University of Cambridge, the same post held by Isaac Newton 300 years earlier.

Chinese police order Beijing restaurants to only serve 10 foreigners at a time

Chinese police have reportedly limited the number of foreigners that some restaurants in Wudaokou, Beijing’s popular student district, can serve at any given time, as authorities boost security for the country’s largest annual political event.

Authorities have told at least three restaurants in the city’s Haidian District, home to Tsinghua University and Peking University, to limit foreign customers to a maximum of 10 at a time on weekends until the end of the National People’s Congress, reported the South China Morning Post.

“Until March 22, every Friday night and Saturday, as requested by local authorities, we can only allow a maximum of 10 foreigners in our store at a time,” a notice at Pyro Pizza said. “We appreciate your understanding during these challenging times.”

American Airlines(AA) "Goes Viral" on Chinese Internet:

Two American Airlines passengers were hospitalized after being hit by a car during a weather diversion due to last Friday’s nor’easter that battered the East Coast.

American Flight 4664 from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to New York LaGuardia (LGA) was diverted on Friday to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) because of the bomb cyclone’s severe weather. The flight was redirected to BWI after a failed landing attempt.

From BWI, American chartered a bus for the final leg of the trip from BWI to LGA, about a 200-mile trek. “The buses were filled with flights from all over … from Detroit, from Nashville, from Minneapolis,” passenger Stefani Kuo told the Washington Post. “No one was really directing anyone.”

Stefani Kuo (a passenger) said the airline offered to pay for a one-way taxi ride to the hospital. It was her — not a ‘Care Team’ member — who was the first to arrive, she noted. The husband recognized her right away and seemed grateful, asking if she could help translate. Kuo stayed for about 40 more minutes, as the couple waited for their son to make his way down from New York.

It wasn’t until she finally got back home to New York on Saturday afternoon — almost exactly 24 hours after she was scheduled to do so — that Kuo had time to file a complaint with the airline. An American employee called her and offered a $500 gift voucher, she said. (The amount was later raised to $700, she noted.) Kuo shared images of her email correspondence with The Post.

Trump on China's Xi consolidating power: 'Maybe we'll give that a shot some day'

President Donald Trump bemoaned a decision not to investigate Hillary Clinton after the 2016 presidential election, decrying a "rigged system" that still doesn't have the "right people" in place to fix it, during a freewheeling speech to Republican donors in Florida on Saturday.

In the closed-door remarks, a recording of which was obtained by CNN, Trump also praised China's President Xi Jinping for recently consolidating power and extending his potential tenure, musing he wouldn't mind making such a maneuver himself.

"He's now president for life. President for life. No, he's great," Trump said. "And look, he was able to do that. I think it's great. Maybe we'll have to give that a shot some day."
