I had a great conversation with a friend about political advertising yesterday. My position:

Pollsters, analysts (and everyone with lips) talks about messaging based on data-informed, check-box messaging. That K St. strategy fails to tell a story or build brand. Ad agencies tell stories and build brands. Check-boxes should inform decisions, not drive messaging.

This is how We’ve arrived at the race to the middle leaving limited distinction between candidates and virtually no branding. (Not including The Ted Cruise song and the Don Blankenship ads.) Trump has an authentic brand, Obama has an authentic brand. I think candidates should brand early as part of an overall marketing strategy.
