BARBARIC YAWP: PART DEUX
BY BORIS BERNARD.

OPENING RECEPTION | THURSDAY | JUNE 13TH | 7‐9 PM
THE YARD | 157 13TH STREET, BROOKLYN, NY 11215

_______________________

A twice in a lifetime exhibition, BARBARIC YAWP: PART DEUX is yet another journey through the creative spectrum of Boris Bernard. The last time we paid a visit was a decade ago in the summer of 2014 in the famed crumbling Camelot that is Chelsea, Manhattan. BARBARIC YAWP, in its first iteration, was an early snapshot of what would develop into a multifaceted practice and way of life. Spearheading his own Pop S**t! movement, Bernard has only fine tuned his vision into a brilliant counterculture that deconstructs every layer of ideology and iconography that barely holds together our broken society.

Featuring a carefully selected collection of works that reflect on the last ten years of Bernard's career, BARBARIC YAWP: PART DEUX is less of a retrospective and more of a celebration of a hand wrought legacy that is currently standing the test of time. It isn't often that we witness such an undying desire to redefine paradigms and shift the narrative. Bernard is the student of life who wants to burn the school to the ground. This grand gesture, this meaningful mission that involves ripping it all apart and putting it back together again, innately echoes our need to own our now and to once again release our own BARBARIC YAWP.

FOR JASMINE...
THURSDAY | MAY 30TH | 7-9 PM
117 EAST 24TH STREET
FLATIRON/NOMAD NYC

Grief is a poignant and peculiar thing that makes you sleep during the day while still keeping you up at night. In fact, it often renders time seamless. You find yourself drowning in an ocean of minutes, hours, weeks, and months. You struggle to keep your head above water; you struggle to remain present. This isn't just an individual experience but a collective one at large. An entire community can find themselves under an umbrella of mourning. However, from the mortal downpours, blossoms new understandings of life and what it means to truly live and grow.

Even in death, we still live. Even in death, we still grow.

For Jasmine… is proof. Featuring Rebecca Brosnan, Denise Lara, Sehej Dasan and Clockwork Crosby, this limited time tribute exhibition is a celebration of the life of Jasmine Paris DeGroat and her legacy which continues to grow through those who continue to love and care for her even after she has transcended. For Jasmine… will be on display at Solas Studios until June 4th.

The opening reception takes place Thursday, May 30th, at Solas Studios (117 East 24th Street, FLATIRON/NOMAD NYC) from 7 PM - 9 PM. Soundtrack will be provided by Nas Leber.
