Through the Study Away program at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, students can broaden their perspectives on cultures' approaches to policy issues on 6 continents in 30 countries. Kokobaz produced a video that lets students explain the opportunities.

From behind the technical director’s position at the launch of Carnegie Council’s Climate Geoengineering Governance Initiative: A panel of global experts from the Red Cross, Greenpeace, the Economist, universities and other organizations discussed governance issues in intentional planetary-scale interventions to the Earth system to counteract climate change, and what this initiative will do.
Sports nicknames, mascots and logos inspired by Native American imagery are common in collegiate and professional sports. Koko-Baz produced a program for Baruch College where experts shared their views, from how such depictions are an added insult in the cruel history of our nation’s indigenous people, to if eliminating this imagery could lead to symbolic annihilation of Native American culture.
Simon Moya-Smith, a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation, Culture Editor at Indian Country Today and CNN columnist spoke passionately about his opposition to the offensive depiction of Native people. kokobaz provided multicam production, live streaming and media promo for the Child Mind Institute & Understood's conversation between Whoopi Goldberg and Dr. Harold Koplewicz. In this excerpt, Whoopi lets parents know what they can do to help a child with learning disabilities - something we all can apply to many situations.

The CUNY-IBM Watson Competition enabled students to develop apps for applying IBM Watson cognitive technology to improve the operation and delivery of higher education and city services. This video is an excerpt from the winning presentation. Koko-Baz helped produce a broadcast program and social media support for this future-shaping project.
KokoBaz celebrated Martin Luther King Day by producing an episode of the Brian Lehrer Show. Recorded in NYC’s Apollo Theater, musicians, activists and others gave forward looking views, as well as reflecting on the past. One highlight was this poem by 2014 Youth Poet Laureate Crystal Valentine.
The Selmer Mark VI Tenor was THE classic sax for Coltrane and a whole era of diverse musicians. Roberto’s Winds in NYC has a beautiful collection for sale, including a 1971 - once owned by Charles Lloyd - priced at $45k. We used 1 player, 2 cameras, and an array of mics - Neumann, Apogee, Rode, Nakamichi & Sony - on over 40 tenor horns for potential buyers around the world. (the Rode Ribbon sounded the best!)
KOKOBAZ was the production company for the first TEDxCUNY conference. Scholars and Artists across many genres performed and spoke on ideas from reducing our meat intake, embracing a new way of forgiving, to exploring the far reaches of the cosmos. Inspiring!

Koko-Baz kept busy this weekend with the People's Climate March. In the Talk Before the Walk, authors Chris Hedges and Naomi Klein, 350.org founder Bill McKibben, Seattle Council person Kshama Sawant, Senator Bernie Sanders and WNYC's Brian Lehrer discussed the urgency of radical action on climate change. Sawant and Hedges sum it up in this clip.

We have been working on two inspirational educational projects. First, the Global Design for UNICEF Challenge is an academic design competition giving students from the City University of New York, Lebanese American University and American University of Beirut the opportunity to work with UNICEF to come up with innovative solutions to pressing development problems facing children. Secondly, the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics covers the range of education from early childhood development to post secondary education to help move the U.S. closer to closing the achievement gap for Hispanic children, so they can pursue their dreams and opportunities

New York City has a new mayor, and Koko-Baz, in conjunction with CUNY-TV, created media for two of the mayoral town hall forums leading up to de Blasio's election. The first was on Asian Pacific Americans. Engineer John Harvi, making everything looks sweet, is pictured at the second forum, which centered on issues facing NYC's Latino community.

Koko-Baz was proud to create various media for the Baruch College-Rubin Museum of Art Project "Sand Mandala Event & Panel Discussion on the Ancient Traditions & Modern Applications of Mandalas". This video highlights the day long creation of the mandala by Buddhist Monks from the Namdroling Monastery in India, along with a few other inspirational moments.
Koko-Baz produced this 15 minute video for a conference about the past, present and future of Battery Park City in NYC. We travelled to the studios of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in New Haven, CT to get Cesar and his son Rafael Pelli’s reflections on designing the World Financial Center and more. Cesar Pelli’s many accomplishments include some of the world’s most influential buildings, including the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. Rafael Pelli is LEED AP and a pioneer in sustainable building design.
Koko-Baz was called upon to film a symposium "Revisiting the Great Society" examing the LBJ presidency and implications for our current leadership. Face the Nation moderator Bob Schiffer engaged a distinguished roster of policymakers: former Vice President Walter Mondale, former US Senator George McGovern, LBJ's Special Assistant Bill Moyers, LBJ's Staff Assistant Ervin Duggan and LBJ's Chief Domestic Advisor Joseph Califano. Koko-Baz set up multiple Sony ex3s fitted with longer Canon lenses, all switched thru a Sony Anycast and recorded on SxScards. Cameraperson Robert Nowak is pictured. Our well-seasoned crew set up our mobile video rig, full stage audio, and lighting on a crazy short schedule - just time for a mini sound check and no video rehearsal - not recommended but sometimes necessary.
Richard Grasso, a self-described 'kid from the gutter of Queens', went on to become Chairman & CEO of the New York Stock Exchange, making $30 million a year at his peak. Koko-Baz produced, shot & edited a discussion with Grasso for an educational leadership tv series. In this 2 minute excerpt, he gives some inspirational words - directed at students - but a lesson for us all.
What happened when US Senator/NBA champ Bill Bradley, tennis legend John McEnroe, actor Matthew Modine, and MLB champ Keith Hernandez got together to honor photographer George Kalinsky? Heavyweight champ Smokin' Joe Frazier sang, of course! Koko-Baz did video, audio and IMAG for this star-studded event. And we'll really miss Joe.
This past Saturday, Koko-Baz supplied equipment and crew to compliment CUNY-TV (we even made room for the C-Span crew!) as Bob Koko directed a multi-camera broadcast of “Sex, Power and Speaking Truth: Anita Hill 20 Years Later” In addition to the packed auditorium, a huge audience tuned into the live stream to hear Gloria Steinem, Lani Guinier, Kimberle Crenshaw and Anita Hill herself, among many others, discuss what happened and what we have learned from the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings in 1991, Anita Hill’s legacy, and the issues of race, gender sexual harassment and social justice. The insightful Laura Flanders of grittv.org hosted and provided behind the scene comments for the transmission. We’ll provide links when content is edited/re-posted and broadcast.
