We mourn the passing of one of our founders, and our first editor, Arlene Croce.
“Puzzled by the absence of a seriously critical dance magazine, Ms. Croce started one herself, Ballet Review, in 1965, editing and assembling it at her kitchen table in New York.”
Writing for The New Yorker, she was both admired and feared, wielding a sometimes merciless pen. Her study of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers drew accolades.
