Kick off your #Friday with a well-poured pint. Our resident beer enthusiast @mandzy87 is sharing the knowledge you need to achieve the perfect pour.
1. Prep the glass - "Starting with a fresh glass that doesn't have any residue or dishwasher film is essential to setting up your perfect glass of beer."
2. Angle the glass - "This is probably the most important step to achieving the perfect pour. Tilt the glass to a 45 degree angle and position the bottle close to the rim (but don't touch it to the glass!), then let the beer slide down the inside wall of the glass."
3. Finish 'er off - "When the glass is 3/4 full, straighten the glass to a vertical position and slowly move the bottle away from the glass to create an optimal head."

- Think in 3's: choose at least three cheeses to diversify your board. We like to choose one hard (Comte), one soft (Camembert) and one stinky (Roquefort). If you're feeling extra, throw in a wildcard like #Gouda. ✔️
- Incorporate some sweetness. Jams, marmalades, fruit chutneys or a classic handful of grapes will do the trick to balance and complement the savory cheeses. ✔️
- Texture and crunch: top off your board with something with texture and crunch, like marcona almonds or crostini. ✔️

Need wine rec's for your Thanksgiving table? Director Trish (DipWSET) says that you can't go wrong with an Albariño from Rias Baixas (white) or a Cru Beaujolais (red):
"I would go with Albariño for a white wine because it's very versatile and appeals to most palates. For red, my choice is a Cru Beaujolais from Morgon or Fleurie. The red fruit flavors and light tannin complement the wide array of flavors on your Thanksgiving table without overwhelming the main event: the Turkey!" 🦃

Decanting

Decanting - what is it and why do it 🤔? We recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of Don Melchor, where master winemaker Enrique Tirado decanted a selection of Chilean #CabernetSauvignon from 1987-2017. Read below for the top tips we picked up from the master himself:
1. The #1 reason why you decant a wine is to allow it to come into more contact with oxygen. O2 rounds out the wine, enhancing and softening the wine's flavors. We love this Wine Breather Carafe from KANSO.
2. You typically want to decant a wine 15-20 minutes before serving to allow for the above to happen ⬆️. Also, take your time and pour SLOWLY to avoid unecessary spillage.
3. Need to open a "closed" wine quickly? Double decanting is the answer. To double decant, follow the normal steps above and then, before serving, use a funnel to pour the wine from the decanter back into the bottle. The double hit of aeration allows for rich, full-on reds with high tannins to soften substantially. 📸: KANSO, decanter by MENU

🎃 Wines from Ambassador Wines & Spirits and candies from Reese's, Sockerbit sweet & swedish, Starburst, and The Hershey Company whoppers.

🍫🍷 Reese's + Tawny Port – Our favorite pairing (Boomer 🐱 agrees). Why it works: the rich and nutty flavor of the tawny port complements the smooth, chocolatey-goodness of the Reese’s. The higher alcohol of the port also helps to balance the creaminess of the Reese's peanut butter center and allows the port’s decadent caramelized fig flavors to shine through. This one is a winner.

🍫🥂 Malted Milk balls + Champagne – A hair-raising experience for your taste buds. Why it works: the malty, milk chocolate flavors of the Whoppers play well with the delicate champagne aromas, BUT we really love the sensory combination of the malt fizzing and breaking down with the champagne bubbles.

🍬🥃 Cherry Starburst + Single Malt Sherry Cask Whisky – An extraterrestrial cherry sherry blast. Why it works: the whisky’s aromas of dried fruit, nuts, and orange peel and cask-strength alcohol catapult the cherry starburst into another realm. ☄️👽

🇩🇪🍬 Sour gummies from Sockerbit sweet & swedish + Spätlese Riesling – A spooky sweet & sour combo. Why it works: the fruity, sour gummies complement and balance the sweetness of the late harvest Riesling. The contrast was hauntingly delicious.

It's national vodka day and we are mixing up this delicious Hibiscus Autumn Sky cocktail, featuring @boozybotanicals hibiscus syrup.

Backstory: this spicy floral cocktail was created by Cheryl Bisbee of Boozy Botanicals as the signature cocktail for @powellgardens Cocktails & Constellations event with @tillvodka.

Recipe: to whip up the Hibiscus Autumn Sky, follow Cheryl’s recipe below.

INGREDIENTS (Serving: 1) 2 ounces American Wheat Vodka 1 ounce Boozy Botanicals Ginger Hibiscus Syrup .5 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice Club soda or seltzer water Garnish: fresh mint

DIRECTIONS Mix vodka, syrup and lemon juice in chilled Collins glass filled with ice. Stir to chill and top with club soda or seltzer. Garnish with fresh flowers or herbs from your garden. #VodkaDay #NationalVodkaDay #FarmtoCocktail #youcansipwithus
