Israel and Hamas are set to sign a ceasefire agreement at 09:00 GMT, which will take effect immediately, marking the first significant breakthrough in efforts to end more than two years of devastating war in Gaza. The deal, mediated and guaranteed by Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and the United States, represents the first phase of a broader peace plan. It centers on three main commitments: a prisoner exchange that will see Hamas release 20 Israeli captives in return for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners including 250 serving life sentences an Israeli troop withdrawal to pre-designated positions, and expanded humanitarian access into Gaza. The exchange is expected to be completed within 72 hours of the truce taking effect. Israel’s security cabinet is scheduled to meet later today to finalize approval of the deal. The agreement comes amid immense humanitarian suffering, with more than 67,000 Palestinians reported killed and large parts of Gaza reduced to rubble.

Around 171 activists intercepted by Israel during an attempt to break its blockade of Gaza including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg were deported to Greece and Slovakia. These individuals were among a total of 479 detainees, of whom 341 had by then been expelled. Thunberg, speaking after her release in Athens, accused the world’s governments of tacit complicity in what she called a “live-streamed genocide” in Gaza, while insisting that attention remain focused on the humanitarian crisis rather than on her treatment. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said it was working for the safe repatriation of former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who was among the Pakistani detainees aboard the flotilla.

Charlie Kirk, the conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University on Tuesday, authorities confirmed. He was 31.
The shooting took place as Kirk was hosting his “Prove Me Wrong” session, part of his American Comeback Tour, where he engaged students in open debate. Witnesses reported hearing a single shot before chaos erupted. Kirk was struck in the neck and rushed to a hospital, but he did not survive.
Law enforcement officials described the attack as a targeted act. While multiple persons of interest were questioned, the identity of the shooter remains unconfirmed. Investigators are also examining whether the shot came from a nearby rooftop, suggesting the attacker may have fired from a considerable distance.
The killing sparked immediate condemnation from across the political spectrum. President Donald Trump called Kirk a “legendary voice for America’s youth” and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff. Leaders from both Republican and Democratic parties denounced the violence, warning of the dangers of rising political polarization.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the incident “a tragedy on our soil” and vowed that authorities would “bring the perpetrator to justice.”
Kirk, known for building strong support for former President Trump among young conservatives, founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and rose to prominence as one of the most influential voices on the American right. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Kathmandu — Nepal has been rocked by days of violent protests led largely by young people, forcing Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to resign amid mounting unrest.
The demonstrations began after the government imposed a controversial ban on 26 social media and messaging platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, citing “national security concerns.” The move backfired, sparking outrage among the country’s tech-savvy Gen Z population, who accused the government of censorship and corruption.
Protests quickly spread across the nation, with Kathmandu becoming the epicenter of the movement. Crowds stormed government buildings, including Nepal’s Parliament and the prime minister’s residence, some of which were set ablaze. At least 19 people have been reported dead in clashes with security forces, while dozens more were injured.
Under pressure from protesters, the government lifted the social media ban, but the gesture failed to calm public anger. Calls for broader political reform and accountability have continued, with young demonstrators declaring, “This is our revolution. It’s our turn now.”
The Nepal Army has stepped in to stabilize the situation, imposing curfews and deploying troops to key areas of the capital. Discussions are underway to appoint an interim leader, with former Chief Justice Sushila Karki emerging as a potential candidate.
The crisis has paralyzed much of Nepal, with airports temporarily closed and businesses shuttered. International observers warn that the unrest underscores deep frustrations among the country’s youth, who are demanding greater transparency, freedom, and an end to entrenched corruption.

Sydney Sweeney has recently sparked romance rumors with music executive Scooter Braun after the two were spotted spending Labor Day weekend together and reportedly grew close following their first meeting at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding earlier this year. Insiders say their connection is casual, with Sweeney intrigued by Braun’s charm and attentiveness, though she remains focused on her thriving career. Earlier in March, Sydney ended her long-term engagement with Jonathan Davino and has since emphasized being single, prioritizing self-discovery, friendships, and her acting projects. While she has been linked to a few casual outings, this rumored relationship with Braun marks the first significant speculation about her love life since her split.
