ECR Music Group Where success is measured by the high note as much as the bottom line. https://www.ecrmusicgroup.com

ECR Music Group is one of the world’s leading independent music companies, founded by recording artist and producer Blake Morgan in New York City. With its vibrant roster of celebrated stars, emerging artists, and distinguished record-label imprints, ECR’s interconnected set of businesses are singularly focused on helping its artists and imprints realize long-term creative and commercial success.

ECR employs a distinct set of resources––our recording-studio facility, recorded-music business, global physical and digital distribution, promotion, advertising, music publishing, TV and film licensing, vinyl pressing, merchandising, brand partnerships, and copious third-party relationships––to extend the company’s reach while holding to our central ideal. Uniquely, ECR Music Group operates under an elemental principle unprecedented in the music world: all of our artists and imprints own one-hundred percent of their master recordings. Originally founded as Engine Company Records (ECR) and born from humble beginnings in Morgan’s one-room makeshift recording studio and office, the company has since flourished with offices in Los Angeles, Nashville, London, and New York City, growing to become the global music company it is today. Founded by an artist and with artists on its staff, ECR Music Group is a company where the unimaginable is simply the norm: where success is measured by the high note as much as the bottom line.

Last week’s relaunch of my NYC Concert series was a magical night for me—an electric crowd, an expert band, and some much needed laughter on stage and off! Here’s a short clip of us playing “Baby I Would Want You,” a song I originally wrote as a fun “apocalyptic love song,” essentially expressing the idea that if the world were coming to an end today, I’d want to spend that last day with “you.” I remarked on stage that these days, the lyrics in the song sound less like those of a charming love song and more like they were ripped from our current and troubled headlines, as if reported by Wolf Blitzer. I admit that I’ve felt the meaning of the song deepen in recent months, and hearing people in the audience sing along with it last week really made me smile. Thanks to all who joined us, and hope you’ll join us again at the next installment of the concert series on November 20th! (Info and tix: https://bnds.us/5jwiep)

Janita - “Let’s Go” [Official Video]
Directed by Alice Teeple
Written by Janita
Produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Blake Morgan
Out now on ECR Music Group

“We made a fun, tongue-in-cheek video for my new single ‘Let’s Go,’ and I think it’s just what the doctor ordered. We filmed this romp in Central Park with director Alice Teeple, and there are homages here to The Beatles’ ‘Paperback Writer’ and ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ videos. How could you not make something fun when you have The Beatles as an inspiration! In the first verse of the song, I sing, ‘The world’s ablaze, but I’ve changed, I do not feel afraid.’ We’re living in a time of such urgency, such conflict, such pain. But I’m committed to use my voice, my music, and my determination to buck against those forces. There’s nothing more rock and roll than hope.” —Janita

Read Janita's interview with Rolling Stone en Español out now: “Finnish-New Yorker Janita releases Mad Equation…the latest chapter in a story that began years ago, when the singer was a teen star in her home country, then settled in the United States, restarted her career with a contentious contract with a major label, and ended up performing in arenas like Montreal's Bell Centre and actively campaigning for musicians' rights. ‘To pile on further, we now have AI, with deepfake photos and videos that blur the boundaries of reality even more,’ says Janita. ‘We no longer have a clear reference for what's true and what isn't. Half the world seems hypnotized, and the other half seems to be waiting for it to wake up.’ This is also what [Mad Equation] speaks to, written from a place of ‘honest exasperation,’ as the artist says, in which echoes of PJ Harvey and St. Vincent resonate.”

My feature interview in Finland’s Helsingin Sanomat is out today (the equivalent of The New York Times where I come from). I had an engaging and meaningful conversation with journalist Harri Römpötti, and these are the fruits of it. (Thanks to Outi Pyhäranta for the great photos.) Here’s a crude translation of something I said in that conversation, “The arts are always dangerous for those who want power. They are a beacon in the darkness."
