FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Publisher Don Weise is thrilled to announce the launch of Querelle Press, a new small press devoted to LGBT literature. Its mission is challenging and celebrating how we view our lives as LGBT people. Formed in partnership with author Chuck Forester, the pres will publish two new titles per year. Querelle is named for Jean Genet’s bold and distinctive novel, and the press aspires to publish in the book’s spirit.

Weise is well established in publishing circles as a premiere editor specializing in LGBT literature, most recently through his affiliation with Magnus Books, and Weise will continue to distribute the titles he published under Magnus Books LLC.

Due out June 2016 is The Faun of Grey Gardens, Jerry Torre’s touching story (written with Tony Maietta) about the years he spent with “Big Edie” and “Little Edie” in their now-famous mansion chronicled in the acclaimed documentary film Grey Gardens. Fans will recall Jerry as the teenage caretaker, and his stories about life with the Beales before Grey Garden’s release and after allow readers to see the movie in a new, revealing light. Says Weise, “I was so moved by Jerry’s story—the lives behind and beyond the movie.” Included are new stories about Jacqueline Kennedy, Lee Radziwill, and Howard Hughes, who once courted Little Edie until she broke off with him because, as she told her mother, "He's just too crazy for me."

Forester, who is new to book publishing, has long been an advocate for LGBT causes in his professional life as assistant to three mayors of San Francisco, and as a volunteer he was Board Chair of the Human Rights Campaign Fund (now the Human Rights Campaign) and chair of the Founders’ Committee that raised $3.2 million for the James. C. Hormel Gay and Lesbian Center in San Francisco’s Main Library. He is a published poet and is currently working on a novel in the seclusion of Sebastopol, California. He said, "Our great literature is the breath of our culture. Seeing gay men in City of Night gave me permission to come out. Books have been my great passion ever since, and I’m pleased to be part of this new publishing venture.”
