Feedback into Rabbinical Assembly Ethics Complaint Handling Process

Sacred Spaces created this public survey to hear from people who have had any contact or involvement with the Rabbinical Assembly’s ethical grievance process. This survey is for people outside of the Rabbinical Assembly membership who want to provide feedback regarding the handling of ethical complaints. Individual responses will remain anonymous. Responses will not reopen a complaint process. Rather, collective themes and points of data will be compiled and used to support Sacred Spaces’ recommendations to the RA for the future. The deadline for submissions is March 21st. If you have an experience to share please take the survey in in English and Hebrew. For questions please reach out to Rabbi Sheryl Katzman; Rabbinical Assembly Senior Director of Member Engagement at [email protected].

Since 2017, the Chinese government has perpetrated countless atrocities against the Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang in order to forcibly assimilate the Uyghurs into the culture of the ethnic Han Chinese majority. These crimes include surveillance, infringement of Uyghur religious freedom, forced sterilization, and internment in forced labor camps. As the world celebrates the Beijing Olympics, we cannot ignore the peril inflicted on the Uyghurs by the Chinese government. Join the RAC and Uyghur American Association at www.rac.org/uyghur.

Yesterday, The Rabbinical Assembly posted an article on Rabbi Kravitz's installation as their new president. “We have something very important. Our sweet spot is being a place where people come together to engage with a Judaism that recognizes that the world changes, but that still wants to be grounded and rooted in tradition. Being able to disagree and still care about each other in such a polarized world, that’s important,” Kravitz told JNS. Read the full article in the shared post and join us in wishing Rabbi Kravitz strength and insight in his new position!
Proud to share this thoughtful piece written by my colleagues, with whom I participated in the recent Rimmonim for Rabbis cohort, boldly sponsored by the Rabbinical Assembly and The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. There are many questions about what, as Conservative rabbis, we can and should do for interfaith couples. What ought no longer be a question is that shame is not a strategy, and stagnation is not an option. Our big, beautiful, complex Jewish family has space to honor and welcome the full range of people who share the road with us and an ever-widening definition of belonging. Grateful for to be part of an ongoing conversation with clergy and laity about how to expand our vision and celebrate our whole family.
Rabbi Amy Eilberg and the Rabbinical Assembly's Social Justice Commission offers this important piece about how to talk about #racialjustice at your seder. What does the wise person ask? The wise part of us moves us to commit to a lifelong learning journey about racism in America. What does the defensive person say? The defensive part of us instinctively feels that anti-racist viewpoints are intended to blame and shame us. No matter how trustworthy the source, this part of us works to close down our mind and heart in the face of challenging information and perspectives. How might we, instead, meet our defensiveness with curiosity, summoning an extra measure of compassion and courage to support our learning? What does the “simple” person ask? The simple part of us may ask, Why can’t we just all get along? Hasn’t there been a lot of progress towards civil rights in our country? This simple impulse within us wants to wish away the complexities and the pain. And the one who doesn’t know where to begin? When feeling overwhelmed, we are aware that there are countless new resources and new points of view about race and racism. There is so much to learn, so much history to explore and evidence to examine. In such moments, we may feel paralyzed by all the complexities and arguments, but paralysis is a luxury of the privileged. Can you instead commit to read one new book, view one film, or learn about one organization as part of your learning journey? For discussion at the Seder table: Which of these “children” live in you as you contemplate questions about race and racism in America? You might want to have each person at the table name two different descriptions that they recognize in themselves. See the full piece: https://exploringjudaism.org/holidays/passover/the-four-children-and-racial-justice/
