Rabbinical Assembly

Rabbinical Assembly Founded in 1901, the Rabbinical Assembly is the international association of Conservative rabbis. Its membership spans over 20 countries and numbers 1600 rabbis.
(343)

The Rabbinical Assembly has been the creative force shaping the ideology, programs, and practices of the Conservative movement, and is committed to building and strengthening the totality of Jewish life. The Assembly publishes learned texts, prayerbooks, and works of Jewish interest; and it administers the work of the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards for the Conservative movement. It also serves the professional and personal needs of its membership through publications, conferences, and benefit programs, and it coordinates the Joint Placement Commission of the Conservative movement. Rabbis of the Assembly serve congregations throughout the world, and also work as educators, officers of communal service organizations, and college, hospital, and military chaplains.

The Rabbinical Assembly sincerely thanks Dr. Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, Director of the Centers For Disease Control (CDC), for talking with our rabbis about managing risk in our communal spaces. Dr. Walensky served on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and conducted research on vaccine delivery and strategies to reach underserved communities. We are so grateful for the wisdom and many insights she offered. A recording of this session will be available to our member rabbis in the coming days.

The Pivoting Present | USCJ

Rabbi Ilana C. Garber, our Director of Global Rabbinic Development, wrote this important piece with The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism's Jennifer Stofman on this year of shifting, rethinking, reinventing, and creating.

"To perceive the needs of members of the community and to meet and exceed their expectations, that is the pivoting present and the presence of our rabbis and cantors."

It’s been a year of rethinking and reinventing. Our clergy are talented and skilled. Now they have become producers, directors, and stars of zoom services.

Parashat Emor: What Is Our Role in Marking the Passage of Time? - JCC Association of North America

"As we reflect on our own experiences of time during the pandemic, take a moment to think about how we may have experienced time passively and what each of us did to mark its passage. What practices and customs have we started that we might want to continue? What habits have we fallen into that we ought to put to an end? And what can we do to imbue some occasions with holiness?" -Rabbi Ashira Konigsburg, COO, Rabbinical Assembly, writing for Jewish Community Centers of North America (JCCs)

By Rabbi Ashira Konigsburg Since the pandemic, I’ve heard many people remark on how time itself feels different. Sometimes it feels that things that happened recently feel longer ago, and sometimes things that took place a year ago feel like they only just happened. Whatever markers we use for our...

We would like to take the opportunity to share the results of our tremendously successful 2021 annual campaign. We are proud to report that we tripled what we raised last year, from nearly $50,000 to over $157,000. We saw a sixfold increase in donors, from approximately 100 last year to 600 this year, including 245 gifts from non-members.

We sincerely thank our generous donors and all those who served on the Host Committee and as Ambassadors. We couldn’t have done this without you!

Your contributions are allowing us to fund the important work of the Rabbinical Assembly (RA). If you haven’t yet made a donation, there is still time to contribute via this link: https://bit.ly/2Qc5GeB. Once again, we thank each and every one of our supporters for helping us secure the bright future of the RA!

Conversion Survey

This Shavuot, Tablet Magazine is doing a special series of feature articles about conversion, and we would be grateful to any rabbis — of any denomination — who would take a very brief survey, which can be done anonymously, but also offers an opportunity to be quoted by name. It is here; we thank you; and we think that the pieces we produce will offer something of value to all of us.

—Mark Oppenheimer, Senior Editor, Tablet

Hi! In advance of Shavuot, Tablet is asking rabbis about conversion. Any answers greatly appreciated but please provide them by April 30 to be included in the survey and eligible for the raffle detailed below. Please note: Answers are all anonymous, unless specifically requested by you in the commen...

On Thursday, April 15 from 6:00-7:00 PM ET, The Jewish Theological Seminary - JTS's Rabbi Danny Nevins will ask four JTS alumni, each a leading Jewish thinker and innovator: what comes next for Jewish life? Transgender Day of Visibility

Today marks International Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV), an annual event celebrating the societal contributions of transgender people and raising awareness of the discrimination still faced by transgender people worldwide.

There are many transgender Jews who contribute daily to the richness of our world and the Jewish community, ensuring that our tradition is alive. Here are a few members to celebrate.

May the spirit of Transgender Day of Visibility overflow through the rest of year, inspiring all of us to play with and expand the meaning and role of gender in our world.

Chaverim: Not being in my office, I do not have access to my library. Since Pesach commences on a Saturday night, how do we structure the effective times in the Agency Authorization to Sell Chametz and the Bill of Sale to a non-Jew? Bedikat chametz has to be done Thursday night, biur chametz by noon on Friday. But can a Jew retain chametz to eat on Shabbat? If so, until when, and how is any remainder disposed of before the beginning of the Seder?
Is there a Zoom link for tonight's Annual Campaign Tribute, or is it just streaming?
