What’s behind a recent rise in books coverage?

If it occasionally feels like nobody reads books, anymore—that we are indeed witnessing the slow death of the literary novel, and the rapid decline of leisure reading, and the steady increase of American non-readers—why is it that mainstream publications are writing more about them? Since the be...

The Hottest Trend in American Literature Isn’t From the U.S.

This past January, YPG hosted a panel all about books in translation, the same week that it was announced that the National Book Awards would add a new prize category for translated literature. Tomorrow they'll announce the first winner!

What kinds of translation-related programming would you like to see from YPG in 2019?

In 2018, American literature no longer means literature written by Americans, for Americans, about America.

LAST CALL TO VOLUNTEER WITH YPG FOR NEW YORK CARES DAY THIS SATURDAY

Today (October 15) is the last day to sign up with NY Cares Day for Schools this Saturday, October 20!

Young to Publishing Group has participated in NYCares Day for Schools every fall for many years. This is a great opportunity to dip your toe in the wonderful world of volunteering here in New York City. NYCares Day will take place on Saturday, October 20. Our group has been paired with a school in need and will assist with completing a project to help the school. In years past, we have helped clear out storage areas, cleaned and organized school libraries, and painted beautiful murals. We usually start first thing in the morning with a lunch break from 12-1pm followed by another hour or two of volunteering, depending on the project. Additional bonus: we also get a very cool free T-shirt with a fun NYCares Day design! Please sign up with our group: YOUNG TO PUBLISHING (YPG CARES). A donation of $10 is suggested, but not required.

Please contact Heather Allen at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Date/Time: Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9:30am to 2pm

Website: https://www.newyorkcares.org/new-york-cares-day-for-schools

Funny book prize not awarded for the first time in its history because none of the novels made all the judges laugh

Ouch, really? Apparently there were no books published last year that were funny enough to satisfy the judges of this British humor prize. Though many produced "a wry smile" (what a very British way to put it), none of the submissions brought "the level of unanimous laughter" required to take home the prize.
Are they right, or did some hilarious books get snubbed?

A prize for the funniest book will not be announced for the first time in its 18 year history as none of the novels made the judges laugh.
