NYC theatre troupe Radiohole has created "a well-crafted event that is full of silliness and whimsy, with a hidden layer of reality that looks at the impact of serious societal oppression," in their interactive dinner party Now Serving: A guide to Aesthetic Etiquette in Four Courses.

GOING TO THE THEATER can be a lot like going to a party. When good, similar pleasures are on offer: diversion, excitement, even uplift. For some fixed amount of time, we forget about the drab minutia of our daily lives. We can feel that we are part of a community, though we know it’s only a tempor...

Our deliberately oversimplified guide to who falls where on our taste hierarchies.
Radiohole's NOW SERVING "It’s a chance to be absorbed into a Peter Greenaway film, into a Terry Gilliam landscape, into the weird fantasies of dreamers from David Lynch’s Black Lodge. If you’re a Radiohole virgin, this would be the right show to take your first steps with, since it’s swift and service-oriented and willing to feed you. The danger is, the taste’s addictive." –Helen Shaw, VULTURE

Thanks American Theatre magazine..... "And God, was it good to see Radiohole again. Those masters of design-forward experimental mayhem mounted Now Serving at their new space at Westbeth, which they’d transformed into a Lynchian dinner theatre. I was in that space recently, and I’m pretty sure I don’t remember the glossy black doors, the glam-doll receptionists behind speaking tubes, the spooky black-and-red dining room which sometimes erupted with its own mess. Some audience members—brave or foolish, I couldn’t decide—were actually seated at the haunted dining table, where they were pelted with toast, serenaded by electric violin, and then assaulted by a man in a giant frog’s head, who sacrificed himself to be the second course. After all the theatrical grazing I’d been doing during the day, it was good to finish it off with something really, thoroughly, irresponsibly rich. It felt like drinking a glass of port that came with nightmares already attached." https://www.americantheatre.org/2019/01/14/feasting-in-the-festival-garden/ Amanda Bender Erin Douglass Lilja Owsley Maggie Hoffman Kristin Worrall Catherine McRae
New York’s annual experimental theatre sampler boasts plenty of chills and frills, but the real attraction is carefully crafted mayhem.
