Be creative, informed, and inclusive. Solving climate change through the built environment is about visionary planning and design, active engagement in social issues, and a working understanding of policy and building technologies."

This semester's set of JMBC Talks focuses on tactics designers are taking to "Design Differently". This Monday, join London-based group Massive SMALL (http://www.massivesmall.com) and our very own Professor Michael Sorkin as they discuss visions and design vehicles in the development our cities.

BanG studio (www.b-an-g.com) recently won a competition to build a pavilion on Governor’s Island this summer as part of the FIGMENT arts festival. The Billion Oyster Pavilion is not only a cool art space, but it will ultimately help restore New York City’s waterways by restoring oyster habitat.

The thing is: we need help to make it happen; we’re looking for a few good architecture students willing to give us a few hours of time. We’re building this thing in our LIC studio starting now and continuing all of May.

Help us pour concrete and assemble the canopy. You’ll get to meet other architecture students from the NYC area. You’ll see what it’s like inside a small architecture, design, and fabrication studio. You will earn IDP credit. Best of all – you’ll get your hands dirty and make something real that over 250,000 people will visit this summer on Governor’s Island.

We’re building in our LIC studio starting now and continuing all May. You can volunteer for as many or as few sessions as you like. We’ll be happy to have you!
More info on the project can be found at: www.oysterpavilion.org

HEY SSA!

Guess what you forgot to do during the break? Submit to Informality! We've got some good promises that came our way - so please send 'em in before the finals crunch really hits!

If you still don't think you have something to submit, start with the things you've done for elective classes! Arch related or not! (maybe even especially not!). Photos, essays, poems and sketches from your sketchbooks, travel experiences.

Trust us, it's probably cool even if you don't think it is.

And if you're still unsure.... ask us! or submit ANONYMOUSLY! or check out the archive of past issues here: http://www.informalityssa.com/informalityarchive/
