🚛 In 2023, driver detention cost the trucking industry $15.1 billion — with 72 million gallons of fuel wasted idling in yards. That's the price of a yard that runs on guesswork.

Our content partner Keller Logistics Group builds dedicated spotting and shuttling programs designed to fix exactly that. A few highlights from their playbook on smarter yard operations:

âś… Stop paying line-haul rates for yard work. Every hour an OTR driver spends shuffling trailers is an hour they're not driving revenue miles.

âś… Match the service to the site. Some facilities need in-yard spotting, others need a shuttle loop, many need both. One-size-fits-all doesn't cut it.

âś… Watch the detention and demurrage creep. A spotter keeping the dock fed often pays for itself in the fees you stop paying.

âś… Plan for surges before they hit. Flexible dedicated capacity beats scrambling when the lot's already full.

That's just 4 of the 10 tips from Keller Logistics Group. Get the full list — service, safety, and continuous improvement all working together to save you money 👇

Meet the experts sharing the supply chain data mistakes companies keep making — and how to avoid them. We spoke with these leaders (and more) for our latest feature:

đź“‹ Nicole Brackett, TradeBeyond
Poor data quality rarely comes from one big failure. It's "death by 1,000 spreadsheets" she says — manual entry and disconnected tools that quietly multiply errors until decisions are built on shaky ground.

đźš© Max Schlichter, McKinsey & Company
Fragmented, disconnected data creates blind spots across the supply chain — and incorrect country-of-origin or hazmat classifications can mean customs delays, fines, or shipment holds.

📡 Brian Cupp, IntelliTrans
Not all data is good data. Tracking every GPS ping just creates noise — curated, exception-based signals are what actually help teams act.

📦 Daniel Wang, LIDD
When forecasting isn't synced with supply and marketing, you get unsold inventory sitting in one place and shortages in another — informed decision-making beats chasing perfect data.

THE TAKEAWAY: connected, trustworthy data is where it’s at.

Most material handling providers want to sell you the biggest system on the floor. LogistiQ has built its whole business on not doing that.

The company specializes in modular, right-sized systems, helping companies avoid the oversized price tags often attached to excess capacity.

LogistiQ explains why “right-sized” beats “maxed-out” every time. Learn more:

đź’µ Descartes Systems Group just made its second acquisition in two weeks.

The company just announced its acquisition of Extensiv, a warehouse management and fulfillment platform built for 3PLs, for roughly $120 million. Extensiv helps 3PLs manage inventory, orders, and billing across a connected web of sales channels, marketplaces, and carriers.

It has been a busy stretch of M&A for Descartes:

📦 PackageRoute (June 2025, ~$2M): a Washington-based platform giving final-mile carriers real-time visibility into deliveries, route optimization, and fleet management. It now plugs into Descartes' GroundCloud safety and compliance suite.

đźš› Tai Software (August 2026, ~$100M): an AI-powered transportation management platform built for freight brokers.

🏭 Extensiv (September 2026, ~$120M): the largest of the three, extending Descartes deeper into 3PL warehouse and ecommerce fulfillment.

Descartes is building out AI-enabled capabilities across the entire fulfillment chain, all under one connected global logistics network.

What actually determines whether a WMS project succeeds?

While most buyers spend months comparing the feature list, the AI capabilities, and the price tag, the real predictors of success are less obvious. More importantly, most teams don't ask about them until it's too late.

Join us and Andrew Hooser (Founder & President, Blue Current) and Glenn VanLandingham (VP, Solutioning & Implementation, Datex Corporation) on September 24 at 1:00 PM ET as we break down:

âś… The 5 factors that consistently predict implementation success
âś… The questions every buyer should ask vendors before signing
âś… How to de-risk your project before it even starts

Drawing on lessons from hundreds of implementations, this is the conversation to have before you sign a contract.
