There is nothing Sandy loved more than being a talent manager and working closely with all the talented people he represented at Avanti Talent Management. To honor Sandy Gunar’s memory, the Asbury Park Monologues will now present an award in his named called the "Sandy Gunar Road to Discovery Award", and it will be presented by members of Sandy’s family. It is given to a performer that exemplifies what Sandy would consider puts them on the Road to Discovery in this business that he loved so much.
Read below for some backstory...
Actor, comedian, and host Derek D was a client of Sandy’s for 8 years. Derek D is also the founder of the Asbury Park Monologues, and Sandy was one of the judges at the very first Asbury Park Monologues show in 2019. That’s him presenting an award to one of the winners in the first picture.
The last thing Sandy text Derek D when Derek had asked how he was feeling was “Long road to discovery”. Sandy was always texting too fast for his fingers (as he always did), so he likely meant “long road to recovery”, but now that he’s passed, we think it’s fitting that he wrote “discovery” even if he didn’t mean to. Gives it a more eternal meaning. That is why the award is called the "Sandy Gunar Road to Discovery Award”.
