PSU to Pay Brightest Students for International Publications
PSU students will be able to publish an article in the proceedings journal indexed in Scopus Elsevier.
From 28 February to 11 April, a competition of research papers among students in bachelor's, specialist's, master's and postgraduate programs will take place at Perm State University (PSU).
The winners of the competition will take part in the “Science and Global Challenges in the 21st Century” Perm International Forum – followed by a publication in Springer (Springer Publishing), indexed in Scopus Elsevier. For those passing the double-blind peer review, the registration fee under RUB 10,000 will be paid by PSU.
For participation, paper drafts and filled questionnaires must be sent by 10 April, 2022, to
[email protected] with the subject title "Research Papers’ Competition". All drafts should be written in English.
The “Science and Global Challenges in the 21st Century” Perm International Forum is an international event aiming to comprehend the tasks and problems faced by science and education, as well as the society in general, within the context of globalization – proposing solutions, targets and opportunities, regarding possible challenges and risk management. The Forum scholars aim to form end-to-end innovation chains, enabling fundamental and applied research, technology development, practical applications and widespread use of IT.
In 2021, an impressive set of 99 reports have been published under the Springer series "Smart Innovation, Systems and Technologies":

PSU Sets 2021 Records, Raises Money to Support Science
Dr. Sergey Pyankov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, has overviewed the results of 2021 at the Academic Council of Perm State University (PSU). Along with PSU Press Office, we have paid close attention to the international component of his report:
In 2021, and for the first time, a group of PSU researchers from a wide spectrum of disciplines performed as authors for the "Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century - Science and Technology" by Springer Publishing. In total, out of 99 publications 59 belonged to PSU scholars.
The Scientific Publishing Office at PSU helped organize the publication of papers, initiated at the Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century Forum (autumn 2021); the Office continues providing assistance in writing scientific articles for the University scholars.
For the past year, 237 PSU scholars published their papers in internationally recognized journals; among them, 111 people had their publications quoted by the Web of Science. On the average, the number of articles published at Scopus Elsevier is 2.6, and 2.8 at the Scopus, Web of Science.

In 2021, a new Department of Scientific and Innovative Activity had been launched at PSU. For the first months of its activity, the Department concluded 12 contracts worth about RUB 70 million. Among the Department’s divisions, the International Academic Cooperation Office assists grant applications, promotes science diplomacy and contributes to the "Rational Subsoil Use" Perm Scientific and Educational Center (Пермский НОЦ "Рациональное недропользование").
“This year, we will keep on building a unified and transparent network – providing informational, instructional and executive support of the scientific activity at PSU. We are doing our best to encourage our faculties and research units to write grant applications, as well as run commercial and contractual activities. The related search algorithms, regulatory support and tangible results should be clear and convenient for those researchers. We see our task at providing most full and complete support on that,” said Dr. Sergey Pyankov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovations, PSU.
Summing up the annual financial records, Dr. Pyankov noted that in 2021, PSU received the maximum amount of RUB 720 mln for research activities, which was 60% higher than in 2020. The Photonics NTI Competence Center (Центр компетенций НТИ Фотоника), the Natural Sciences Institute, and the Faculty of Physics, PSU made the greatest contribution in this progress.

My first symptoms of ALS occurred in 2014, but was diagnosed in 2016. I had severe symptoms ranging from shortness of breath, balance problems, couldn't walk without a walker or a power chair, i had difficulty swallowing and fatigue. I was given medications which helped but only for a short burst of time, then I decided to try alternative measures and began on ALS Formula treatment from Tree of Life Health clinic. It has made a tremendous difference for me (Visit w w w. treeoflifeherbalclinic .com ). I had improved walking balance, increased appetite, muscle strength, improved eyesight and others. ]
This is from a personal post, but I believe it's very relevant to you - A wee suggestion to help reduce the amount of paper books have to use...please bear with me. As an unreconstructed old fart I just can't read anything longer than a report digitally (and I find them easier to use in paper form) it really has to be in old fashioned book form. However, I've always been acutely conscious that books are often significantly bigger and heavier than they need to be due to 'overpackaging'. In this particular regard this means making you think you are buying more text and/or illustrations than you really are by having bigger page margins, long lengths of blank paper between chapters, larger typeface than is necessary for books that aren't specifically large print and perhaps most ridiculously, totally blank pages inserted into the back of the book - talk about literally 'padding it out'. This of course adds to the natural resources, energy used and pollution created by making, packaging and distributing larger than necessary books - it also means more inconvenience bookshops, libraries and the actual reader. However, as books are on the expensive side publishers think this is worthwhile to get more sales (if it does), especially with hardbacks. I just want to make the point that there's already an awful lot that can be done to reduce the environmental impact and improve the convenience of book reading. Take some time when you can to look through your book collection and compare things like the size of book margins and you'll realise how bad this problem is. This suggestion though is a new one that could further reduce paper use with some books. If you get non fiction books about or science etc there's almost certainly a lengthy notes or references section at the back (please note I'm not referring to acknowledgements, bibliography or index) detailing the specific books, reports and journals the particular items in the text were sourced from. This might be handy for some readers, but for most it never will be. I understand why for various reasons that has to be accessible, but it can take up a bloody big proportion of the book. The attached photo came from the beginning of the Notes section in 'The Invention of Natural History' by Andrea Wulf'. The entire book is 471 pages long, the notes section takes up pages 345 to 455!!! That's way more than a fifth of the entire book! I have a lot of history, autobiography and science books that are just the same. What would happen if instead of the references all being printed out in the book there was instead a website address where any interested reader could access them digitally with the added benefit that the list of references could themselves act as links to the actual source material. Perhaps a QR code in the back of the book could do the same job. I can't really think of any reason why this wouldn't work and save one hell of a lot of paper, packaging and energy. Any feedback? Does anyone fancy giving any relevant books they have a quick look to see how significant this might be?
