As a teenager, Mike Diana took after the underground comix community, namely Zap Comix, and self-published Boiled Angel, his first handmade comic zine hallmarked by his flagrantly explicit and taboo black line drawings. With up to 300 in circulation at the time, Diana hoped to circumnavigate the conservative eye of Largo, Florida, yet intended to create the most offensive zine ever made. Enough to become the only person thus far in the United States to receive a criminal conviction for artistic obscenity.

"Tethered Hearts" is a design collaboration by Orb of Anchors Aweigh, Taylor Browning of Smart Dept Fabrication, and Joshua "Ganjeesh" Letton of Old Crow Scenic & Rigging. It is a continuation of the annual Skin:NYC body suspension art installation events, which explore the shared synchronicity of bodies through custom-fabricated structures, geometric design, and various technologies.

Superchief Gallery LA is pleased to present the exhibition of Space Angels, a new body of work by Bunnie Reiss, known for her vibrant murals, featuring over two dozen new paintings, sculptural pieces, installations, quilts and more. This is her first solo exhibition in two years. The opening reception will be held on November 4 from 6pm - 11pm. Space Angels will be on view until December 2, 2017.
Space Angels, is Reiss’ exploration of a new fantastical universe that may be born from the conflicts that currently embroil the world, the paintings depicting its colorful inhabitants in her signature style of abstract, folk-art portraiture. She describes these figurative works as our “imaginal selves,” created as we retreat from the chaos so we can cocoon and dissolve our current circumstances, then come out completely new, all the way down to our gooey cellular form. “Our souls might just be saved and rise up from land to somewhere in the stars,” says Reiss in her artist statement. “We could go back to the basics of kindness, compassion, a deeper understanding of the human condition, and reread all the ancient books given to us by Mother Nature.”
