Barbara Lowenstein started her publishing career at the Sterling Lord Agency as an assistant to the dramatic agent. She then moved on to Lancer Books, one of the last independent paperback houses, where she created the first line of trade paperbacks in the industry. There, she published self-help, psychology, how-to, crafts and cooking titles. In 1976, after a brief stint as Director of Subsidiary Rights for Walker Books, she started Lowenstein Associates, which allowed her to combine her editorial skills with her gift for selling.

Mission: We have a unique approach to selling books and handling our authors' careers, combining the kind of personal, hands-on attention that the corporate-style agencies don't have the time to give, with the strong negotiating muscle and stellar reputation the boutique agencies can't match. As an example, in the past year, we have sold over 250 ebooks and audio books from our robust backlist.
