The Institute was founded in 1969 by Strasberg, teacher and artistic director at the famed Actors Studio. It has a special program with the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where students can study in an 8 credit program. The institute is currently under the artistic direction of Anna Strasberg.

In 2020, we were privileged to have founded two new scholarships named after two incredible Method Actors - Cicely Tyson and Chandra Wilson. Each scholarship will award a full year of study to a BIPOC actor who demonstrates great potential and passion for a career in the performing arts.⁣
