The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute - New York The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute is dedicated to the ideals, values, and vision of the Lee Strasberg Method.
The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute is a school for the performing arts located at 115 East 15th Street in New York City, and at 7936 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, that is dedicated to teaching The Lee Strasberg Method Acting. The Institute was founded in 1969 by Strasberg, teacher and artistic director at the famed Actors Studio. It has a special program with the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where students can study in an 8 credit program. The institute is currently under the artistic direction of Anna Strasberg.

The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute is the only school in the world that offers the purest of trainings in The Lee Strasberg Method Acting technique. For over 40 years, the Institute has built its outstanding reputation on the proven value of Lee Strasberg’s teachings, the astonishing achievements of our students, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. We challenge our students to be bold in their choices, original in their ideas, and passionate in their pursuit of creative individuality. Our highest goal is to ensure that each student masters Lee Strasberg Method and its disciplines, as well as encouraging every student to become a successful artist within his or her chosen field.

Mission: The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute is dedicated to the ideals, values, and vision of Lee Strasberg’s innovative work known throughout the world as The Lee Strasberg Method Acting technique. Through actor training, outreach, and the preservation of archival materials, the Institute works to further the legacy of Lee Strasberg and maintain his place as a seminal figure in the great American theater tradition.

Every semester in collaboration with The Clifford Odets Ensemble Play Commission, LSTFI puts up an original play for students in the capstone program at NYU Tisch at Strasberg. This spring we are honored to have playwright Trish Harnetiaux and director Olivia Songer heading our Practicum production!

Trish Harnetiaux is a Brooklyn-based playwright. Her play Tin Cat Shoes premiered in 2018 kicking off Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks (Playwrights Horizons Superlab). Other works include: How to Get into Buildings, Welcome to the White Room, and If You Can Get To Buffalo, all published by Samuel French.

Olivia Songer holds a MFA in Theatre Directing from the Lir Academy, Ireland's National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin, and a BFA in Drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

We can’t wait to see what this accomplished duo and our wonderful cast create!
