Alumni news alert! Five of our incredible LSTFI alumni - Sofia Sam, Syona Varty, Marissa Riggs, Emma Hoersdig, and Niara Robinson - have founded Imaginarium Theatre Company, dedicated to the fearless exploration of artistic creativity and the pursuit of socially and environmentally ethical practices in the theatre.

A nonprofit organization, Imaginarium has just launched its first philanthropic program: a pay-what-you-can, donation-based college audition coaching service with no minimum donation required. Imaginarium’s team is ready and available to help aspiring young actors looking for help navigating the college audition process - from selecting monologues to performing them truthfully.

“At Imaginarium, we believe that diversifying the performing arts landscape begins with creating more education opportunities for actors and musical theatre performers of diverse backgrounds. As recent graduates from the prestigious NYU Tisch, we at Imaginarium are well aware of how privilege plays a major role in drama school admissions - audition coaching and performing arts training are not equally accessible to every applicant. These obstacles lead to homogeneous student bodies and, consequently, homogeneous representation on our stages and screens. We need to change this.”

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, we are establishing several new scholarships named in honor of prominent alumni whose work exemplifies Lee Strasberg Method Acting and inspires us all. We are thrilled to announce a scholarship in honor of multi-talented actor, director and alumna, Chandra Wilson! This scholarship for one year of full-time study at LSTFI in New York will be awarded to a talented BIPOC actor who demonstrates great potential and passion for a career in the performing arts.

“I chose Strasberg because, with all of my years of being a musical theatre actor, I felt I lacked knowledge of the internal journey of creating a character when song and dance were not an option. And, as difficult and painful as that journey was sometimes in class, leaving me full of doubt about what I was doing, I was made to understand that my talent is what got me in the room. Now it was my job to ground it in Lee’s instruction. I would love the scholarship to be a vessel to support an actor like me who has the talent, but is seeking to be more grounded in the work.”
-Chandra Wilson
