Jeremy Gerard, chief engineer at Gurari Studios at the National Opera Center in New York, takes us on a recording session with Soprano Sigal Chen and pianist Eric Sedgwick. How does Jeremy get the piano sound he wants? He uses a Royer SF-12 stereo ribbon microphone into two Royer dBoosters (in-line signal boosters) into a UA Apollo 8P. The dBoosters increase the signal of the passive SF-12 by 20dB without adding noise or distortion.
