After more than three wonderful years of publishing Zymbol as a print magazine, we have decided to shift focus, with the aim of becoming an independent press. Since 2012, we've shared with you the work of artists and writers from over 25 countries, who have gone on to publish award-winning books, open solo shows, and speak at conferences and festivals worldwide. There will be one more issue of Zymbol in July, and then (unless someone takes over!) the magazine will go dormant as we ramp up toward our first book releases.
We understand that this will come as a surprise to many of you who love the magazine, but know: we're not going anywhere. We're not "going under," and we're not jumping ship. As a press, we will be helmed by the same crew and have the same editorial vision as the magazine. Our primary goal has always been to help advance the careers of our artists and writers. For now, we feel that we can better continue that mission as a press, where the promotion cycle is longer and we have more avenues to market. We don't want to divide our attention between the magazine and the press because we don't want to risk falling short of the high standards you've come to expect. So, think of the magazine as "on hold" for now...that said, we are open to some new energetic editors who are willing to take over so that the magazine can keep going alongside our press. Those with an interest in taking over as the new editors of Zymbol are invited to contact me at [email protected].
Submissions will remain closed until we're ready to begin reading as an independent press. The new open call for submissions will be announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages. All the stories and poems on zymbolmag.com will remain, and we'll continue adding work from all our past issues, with the goal of making as much of the magazine available online as possible. Thanks everyone, hang in there, and here's to new beginnings!
