Graciela Iturbide's images reveal untold stories of indigenous Mexico

"Graciela Iturbide's Mexico," a monumental survey of her work on display at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington, D.C., offers an emotional portal into Iturbide's homeland through 140 photographs taken over 50 years.

"This exhibition shows glimpses of a place that is nuanced and multifaceted and absolutely cannot be painted with a broad brush, which is so often what we see in the media today."

Part of the exhibit focuses on indigenous communities across Mexico that are often overlooked: the Seri in Sonora, the Zapotecs from Juchitán and the Mixteca in Oaxaca.

The Mexican photographer's haunting portraits of marginalized communities are done with complexity and compassion.

Tribute to Eugenio Polgovsky (1977-2017): 'Tropic of Cancer' and 'Mitote'

May 6th @5pm Lincoln Center Art of the Real double feature: Tropic of Cancer, a pointed dispatch from the deserts of inland Mexico, where impoverished families use homemade traps and weapons to hunt snakes and birds amid arid brushland, a state of existence that might as well be prehistoric; and Mitote, which weaves through the hunger strikers, wrestlers, soccer fans, and shamans at El Zocalo, Mexico City’s vast main plaza, evoking a hallucinatory, vérité snapshot of the nation.

One of the best documentary filmmakers of his generation, Eugenio Polgovsky died suddenly last year. These two medium-length works—Tropic of Cancer and Mitote—reveal vastly different aspects of 21st-century Mexico.

Congrats to our friends @ Mezcal Amores for the feature in Vogue.

To truly understand the magical properties of mezcal, you need to go to Oaxaca in Mexico’s smoky southern heartland where the stuff gushes right out of the ground. It’s also where hundreds of people from as far away as London and Berlin now fly in for the Mezcal Amarás Experience, a one-night, wo...

Eduardo García’s Path: Migrant Worker, Convict, Deportee, Star Chef

Our respects to Eduardo Garcia chef and owner of Maximo Bistrot Local in Mexico City.

"I don’t hide from any of this, because I want people around me to know who I am. A lot of people have been through what I’ve been through. Yes, it is shameful to say, you’re a fraud, you’ve been deported, you’ve been in prison. But these are mistakes any human being can make."

Mr. García has won plaudits for his fusing of Mexican and French cuisine. He is also banned from the United States.
