Today is my first real day in the Ship Shop.

I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to get this place usable, while apparently everything else on the homestead decided it needed attention at the exact same time...

But today... I think I’m finally caught up. Nothing is plugged up. Nothing is on fire. Nothing has blown up yet....
(I do not wish to manifest this)

So I can actually walk out to the Ship Shop, turn the lights on, fire up the grinder, and make some Spatchets.

Which is kinda funny, because that was the whole reason I built this place in the first place.

But I think today it finally becomes an actual shop.

Let’s make some Spatchets. 😁

THE DRAIN IS FIXED!

Turns out there were some remnants of buildup left over from a repair a few years ago. I had a drain line collapse back then and repaired it, but the section coming out from under the house had a whole lot of buildup in it.

I cleaned out what I thought was all of it, but apparently I left the uppermost slug of crap behind. Over time, that solid little bastard finally plugged the line off and started causing problems again.

Luckily, my trusty dusty shop vac, drain bladder, Sawzall, a piece of PEX, and an extensive repertoire of swears got the plug out.

Drain is flowing again.
Victory...

I’ve been self employed for 4 weeks now, and I’m starting to think I picked one hell of a month to do this.

Two months ago my stepmom passed away, so I’ve been trying to help Dad through losing his wife. He's doing alright, but there's moments where it hits him...

Then Lucy, our puppy, started having massive seizures and had to be put on medication. She had a major cluster one night. We thought that we were going to lose her...

Dad and I have also been fighting with his diesel mower, and every time we fix one thing, something else decides to break. Right now, it's alternator issues. Not sure if it's the excite circuit, or the alternator losing ground to the battery somehow.

Then the inverter in the Ship Shop blew out, which put production down for a while and got me toying with the idea of changing the whole shop over to a different voltage. Got the new inverter in and working for now.

At the same time, I’ve been insulating the Ship Shop and getting it finished enough that I can actually work out there. Been like an oven in there.

Welded and installed the door frame. Fought Hornets to do so...

Did manage to get the solar awning up and gain some power though.

It has rained constantly... Big storms too.

I’ve been selling out of products about as fast as I can make them. I'm counting this as a good thing. 😁

And today I’m fighting a clogged drain. Don't know why it clogged... I guess it saw everything else getting attention and got jealous.

So yeah... I don’t really know if I’ve actually experienced normal self employment yet.

It’s mostly been
"Run the business whenever the rest of life stops catching fire for five minutes."

But, I will say this.

I love my new Job.

Got a long day at the grinder today.

A tongue twister that Simon Lee Shugar and I came up with today.
😂

The ship shop ain’t shipshape, so I gotta shipshape the ship shop. Just don't s**t in the shipshape ship shop after you've shipshaped the ship shop or it'll be a s**t shipshape ship shop!

The ship shop
is in ship shape.

I installed a transfer switch! The Ship Shop is getting closer to being back up and running. I’ve got a generator, a transfer switch, and a plan to keep production moving while I sort out the inverter situation.

Only problem? I managed to come up about two feet short on the generator cord.

Thankfully, that’s one problem with a pretty simple fix. Today I’m getting everything hooked up, talking through the temporary power setup, and getting one step closer to making Spatchets again.

I redid the countertop on my day of rest... 😅

My inverter died. New one is on it's way. Shop wiring is still getting done. My sister says hi. Doing my best to tear up my Bucees shirt...

I decided to buy a new inverter for now.

The Ship Shop is down, and converting both it and the tiny house to new electrical systems right now would take way too much time.

I need to get production back up and running, build up a stockpile of Spatchets, and get ahead of demand first.

Once I have some breathing room, I can come back and look at converting the systems properly instead of trying to rebuild everything while production is at a standstill.

even an off-grid factory works better when it has electricity. 😅
