In honor of tonight's U.S. Department of Arts and Culture 2018 Poetic Address to the Nation, check out the video below from its inaugural year at Bowery Poetry Club made by Bowery Poetry Studios' Nikhil Melnechuk & Max Powers.

And livestream this year's Address starting at 7pm EDT here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQBaLk66bFw

The People’s State of the Union is a new civic ritual and participatory art project, created by the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture. Between January 23-30, 2015, individuals and organizations in more than 150 communities across the U.S. hosted story circle events, inviting neighbors to share personal stories that reflect the state of our union. Scribes from each event (and individuals anywhere) could upload stories online, resulting in the hundreds of stories now available to browse in the story portal. Drawing inspiration from these stories and their own experiences, a diverse group of twenty poets came together to collaboratively create the 2015 Poetic Address to the Nation, performed and broadcast live on February 1, 2015.

This film features an excerpt from the Poetic Address as well as footage from story circles nationwide.
