Bradie Tennell was a rising figure skating star when she became U.S. junior champion in 2015, but was sidelined a few months after that victory by stress fractures in her back. She spent the summer of that year in a back brace only to develop another stress fracture after she began skating again, leading to another summer spent in another brace. Unable to skate at all for months at a time was “not very pleasant or fun for me,” Tennell says now, with the injuries far in her past but not her mind. When she was finally able to return to the ice in the 2016 season, it was a hard climb back to her previous status. She finished 11th in the world junior championships. Looking back, Tennell says there was one benefit to the forced time away from the rink: It reinforced her love of figure skating. “When I came back to skating, I found why I love the sport,” she told TIME recently. “I had a renewed sense of motivation and was able to get down to business.”

This incredibly courageous, beautiful, and talented young woman has had astonishing success in the short time she has been modeling, and has captured media attention both in Australia and internationally. She lost over 20kg, and is now changing society’s perception of people with disabilities, one photo shoot at a time.

Harlow did not have an easy childhood. At the age of four she was diagnosed with vitiligo, the incurable skin pigmentation disease that causes colorless patches to develop on a person’s body. Bullied for the way she looked, her peers at school taunted her with cruel nicknames such as “cow” and “zebra”. “The bullying was so bad that I was forced to drop out and be homeschooled,” Harlow recalls. Fast-forward to 2016 and Harlow has over one million followers on Instagram, she’s the face of Spanish fashion label Desigual.“I learned to love who I am despite what anyone would say about or to me. This gave me the courage to really stand up to anyone or any obstacle in my life,”

Throughout her childhood, YouTube star and motivational speaker Molly Burke was hoping for a cure for her blindness. In fact, she was a literal poster child for the Foundation Fighting Blindness Canada, a non-profit organization that funds research toward a cure. “I was surrounded by the idea of a cure my whole life,” said Burke, who at 4 years old was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare retinal disease that causes a loss of vision. “So I spent my whole childhood fundraising for cures. I raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.” Today, Burke, 25, has a new philosophy, as well as almost 2 million subscribers to her YouTube channel. “I don’t even want to be cured now. I was told to believe it was better to be sighted, and I believe that dialogue is so destructive,” Burke said in an interview with Know Your Value. “How are we supposed to raise people to be confident and love themselves and accept who they are? I never stopped being bullied. Even to this day, I face discrimination every day. That’s a humbling thing,” she said. “That doesn’t change just because I love myself or have a following online, or because I can pay my bills,” she said. “But I love who I am, so other peoples’ judgments of me just bounce right off of me. You don’t even know who I am, and I love who I am so it doesn’t matter what you say and what you think of me.”

“From reality television star to self-made entrepreneur, this social media influencer has made his way into success by using his already-established television profile to endorse his own business.During his role on the BAFTA award-winning reality series Made in Chelsea, Laing began to carve his path towards a sweeter world. His entrepreneurial eye spotted the ineludible gap in the candy market, inspiring him to found the sweet company Candy Kittens. Candy Kittens has expanded its outreach by promoting merchandise on their company website, offering accessories, bags and notebooks alongside their confectionary range. The company has now received national recognition and continues to thrive within the confectionary industry. His entrepreneurial success is by no means a surprise, considering his being the grandson of the Mcvities founder. On top of his entrepreneurship, Laing embarks on further paths to becoming a global influencer through his YouTube podcast Private Parts, acquiring 75.9k subscribers with a total of 7.9 million views across his videos.”

“I have always pushed the limits of ski racing and it has allowed me to have amazing success but also dramatic crashes. I have never wanted the storyline of my career to be about injuries and because of that I decided not to tell anyone that I underwent surgery this past spring. A large portion of cartilage that had delaminated from my bone was removed. My crash in Lake Louise last year was much more painful than I let on, but I continued to race because I wanted to win a medal in the Olympics for my late grandfather. Again, I rehabbed my way back this summer and I felt better than I had in a long time. Then I crashed in Copper this November and injured my left knee, tearing my LCL plus sustaining 3 fractures. Despite extensive therapy, training and a knee brace, I am not able make the turns necessary to compete the way I know I can. My body is broken beyond repair and it isn't letting me have the final season I dreamed of. My body is screaming at me to STOP and it’s time for me to listen.
Honestly, retiring isn’t what upsets me. Retiring without reaching my goal is what will stay with me forever. However, I can look back at 82 World Cup wins, 20 World Cup titles, 3 Olympic medals, 7 World Championship medals and say that I have accomplished something that no other woman in HISTORY has ever done, and that is something that I will be proud of FOREVER!
I always say, “Never give up!” So to all the kids out there, to my fans who have sent me messages of encouragement to keep going… I need to tell you that I’m not giving up! I’m just starting a new chapter. Don’t lose faith in your dreams, keep fighting for what you love, and if you always give everything you have you’ll be happy no matter what the outcome.
Thank you for the amazing years, for always supporting me, and for making my job so fun. Can’t wait to see some of you in the finish in Åre where I will give it my all one last time.

“I am here to share with you something that I always wanted to share with you one day, but under my own circumstances. It looks like that chance has been taken away from me so today I am taking back my own power,” she explained. “When I was younger, I was born in the wrong body, which means I am transgender. By the age of 6, I grew my hair out. ... By the age of 7 or 8, I fully wore girls’ clothes only and it felt amazing,” she said, adding that as a teen she went on hormone therapy and growth stoppers, fully transitioning at 19.The last thing I want in my life is for you to not trust me anymore or to look at me with different eyes. Or look at me in a different manner. ... At the end of the day I am still Nikkie.” @huffpost @nikkietutorials

“In July 2018, Demi Lovato suffered an overdose. She spent several days in the hospital before going into treatment later that summer. In August of that year, she told her Instagram followers, "I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time."
She made her return to the public spotlight a year and a half later: first performing at the 2020 Grammys, then singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl.
Lovato's journey through the ups and downs of sobriety has helped many people, so the last thing we need to do is sensationalize her situation. Instead, we can look to all the times Lovato and her loved ones have talked openly about her addictions.”

“Starting on MySpace as a musical artist back in 2006, Star frequently used the platform to promote his music. It wasn’t long until the artist’s growing fame allowed him to release his first studio album featuring award-winning major label artist Nicki Minaj. Since, he has also collaborated with global superstar Kesha, catapulting him into the world of high-profile influencers. As his music career was brought to a temporary halt, Star embarked on further endeavours, submerging himself within the fashion and beauty industry before founding his own cosmetics company Jeffree Star Cosmetics.
He promoted his new projects on YouTube, where his following dramatically increased; now he acquires a total of 1.4 billion views and 13.6 million subscribers on the platform alone. Since starting his e-commerce brand, companies such as Morphe have been keen on collaborating with the influencer. After helping Morphe with the launch of a new store in Paramus, New Jersey, the two have collaborated to feature a selection of Jeffree Star makeup brushes on the Morphe website. Today, he is not only the owner of a huge beauty empire, but one of the biggest names in the beauty sphere.”

Erica Lugo is a fighter and is a true inspiration. “To be honest, I don't have one of those stories where I can tell you that I looked at myself in the mirror and hated myself. I was truly just oblivious. I mean, I knew I had some weight to lose, but at 5 foot 11 inches tall, I just felt like I was a big girl and was never going to have a tiny waist or small thighs, and that didn't bother me. In November of 2018 I was diagnosed with stage 2 thyroid cancer. I underwent radiation and surgery and ultimately beat the disease, but my body went through hell and back in the process. I remember coming home from treatment, looking in the mirror and thinking: "I look terrible." Today, working out and eating healthy isn't about how awesome I look. It's about inspiring people to realize that neither illness nor your weight define you and that you're so much stronger than you think. That's what I'm trying to bring to this brand new season of The Biggest Loser as I work with contestants who are starting their own fitness journeys...just like I did.” @shape

Jim Carrey, defines perseverance and took his dreams from his childhood of being a famous comedian and made them a reality. At age 15, Carrey performed his comedy routine onstage for the first time and was a complete flop onstage. However, he was still determined on being successful. The next year, at 16, he quit school to focus on comedy full time and moved to LA shortly after. He would park on Mulholland Drive every night and visualize his success. One of these nights he wrote himself a check for $10,000,000 for “Acting Services Rendered,” which he dated for Thanksgiving 1995. Just before that date, he hit his payday with Dumb and Dumber. Jim Carrey is an example on how making moves, visualizing, and acting on your visions, does indeed impact your reality.
