Iran’s Foreign Ministry Says Hormuz Deal Near Completion, Denies Pakistan Trip

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the joint shipping statement with Oman is in its FINAL drafting stage, with the proposed route through the Strait of Hormuz already agreed.

Dr. Baghaei said an Iran-Oman deal alone will NOT reopen the Strait, arguing U.S. and Israeli actions remain the main obstacle.

He also DENIED reports that Foreign Minister Dr. Abbas Araghchi will visit Pakistan or Qatar this week, while confirming both countries continue efforts to reduce regional tensions.

Among the changes:

✈️ Iraqi airline Fly Baghdad has been removed from the U.S. sanctions list.

🛩️ Two aircraft previously linked to Iran's IRGC were also delisted.

The broader sanctions campaign against Iran remains in place...

But this move is already raising fresh questions about Washington's next move.

Iran announces its Strait of Hormuz agreement with Oman is "hereby postponed" over US interference and Trump's threats, saying Iran "will not conclude any agreement under the shadow of threats," per Sepah News.

Iran adds Trump "is trying to claim credit for an agreement that is purely with Oman," stating that "even with an agreement between Iran and Oman, the Strait of Hormuz will not open if the United States continues its violations," with reopening "contingent upon a change in US behavior and the correction of its violations."

Iran adds that once reopened, the Strait will operate "under full sovereign authority," with fees charged on every transiting ship

: Iran’s Foreign Ministry says reports claiming an agreement with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz has already been reached are false.

The ministry says negotiations have entered their final stage and that a joint statement could be issued soon, provided no third party interferes with the process.

Officials say discussions remain ongoing and no final agreement has been announced.

Six Saudi-flagged supertankers are avoiding Bab el-Mandeb and heading toward southern Africa instead.

The VLCCs are empty after unloading in Asia, but each can carry up to two million barrels. Reuters calculates that the diversion could add at least 25 days if they return to Saudi Red Sea ports through Suez.

The Houthi threat is now producing a measurable logistical cost even without another attack: ships remain at sea longer, fleet availability tightens and insurance exposure rises. The pressure is visible in actual shipping movements, not only in declarations.

Iran is pursuing a strategy of calibrated escalation, increasing the economic and political costs for the US and its allies until Trump becomes more willing to compromise, particularly over the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials say sustained pressure will leave Trump with no choice but to negotiate on Iran's terms, especially looking ahead to the November midterms.

Iran's big advantage is that it "can hurt the regional states and the global economy," with Iran believing it can tolerate economic pressure longer than a US-led coalition can tolerate recurring disruption to global commerce and energy markets.
