Sources: Mitchell 'unnerved' as Snyder leaves Jazz

So it begins….

As we expected, Quinn Snyder has stepped down as coach of the Utah Jazz. Former Jazz assistant (and current Knicks associate head coach) Johnnie Bryant is likely going to be a candidate. He and Donovan Mitchell are close.

But then there’s this:

Amid the reverberations of Quin Snyder's departure after eight seasons as the Utah Jazz coach, All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is described as "unsettled, unnerved and wondering what it means for the franchise's future," sources told ESPN on Sunday.

Knicks finalizing Rick Brunson hire as assistant coach | SNY.tv

Don’t read too much into this in regards to Jalen Brunson coming to the Knicks as a free agent. Doesn’t mean he won’t of course. But this move is more about Tom Thibodeau adding another ally on his coaching staff. Brunson also very close to Leon Rose and William Wesley.

The Knicks are finalizing a contract with Rick Brunson to become an assistant coach on Tom Thibodeau’s staff, SNY has learned.

Knicks draftee Rokas Jokubaitis gets praised by Barcelona teammates and hopes to impress even more

“I think [Knicks] people seeing me winning the Rising Star award gives them more excitement than just simple highlights from the games. This award won't make things worse, that's for sure . . . It's very likely that I'll stay in Barcelona for one more year, so I will try to impress them [Knicks] even more.”

New York Knicks draftee and FC Barcelona's point guard Rokas Jokubaitis received recognition on the European basketball stage. The 21-year-old won the EuroLeague Rising Star award, becoming the first Lithuanian ever to achieve such a feat.

There’ll be no dancing on the grave here regarding Nets first round sweep. Instead there should be a greater focus on the Knicks need to reset this summer by carving out more of the identity that the franchise has had in their best years: defense, toughness and grit.

The concern when KD and Kyrie went to Brooklyn was how success could flip the city. The Knicks have still avoided that fate and need to get their act together to get back to playoff caliber at the very LEAST while continuing to build with home grown players.

In two playoff games without Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson is averaging 32.5 ppg, 7.5 rebs, 5.0 assists and just 1.0 TO (two in 83 total minutes) and shooting 49/54/77.

He has stepped up in the absence of the Mavs star, who dominates the basketball on offense.

Is there more to Brunson -- an obvious Knicks target this offseason -- than most people realize or is Utah's defense (Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell) taking him too lightly?

Pelicans advancing to the playoffs with the 8th seed means the Knicks move from 12th to 11th in the draft lottery. I see everyone on social media making a big deal about this but let’s just look at history and expect one or all of three things:

— The 12 spot will hit and move up.

— Whomever the Knicks are targeting will go 10th

— A superstar will wind up being picked AFTER 11th.

Toppin Scores 42, Quickley 34-Pt Triple-Double, Both Set Career-Highs in Win | New York Knicks

We can eulogize the season later and, I promise, I'll do it on a FB Live some time this week. But for tonight, let's just appreciate Game 82.

The 2020 first round picks showed out. Obi Toppin capped off his late-season run with another career-high (42 points) while Immanuel Quickley had his second triple double with 34 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as the Knicks closed out the season with a win to give them 12 in their last 19 games.

Since this was done against a playoff-bound Raptors team that was resting starters such as Fred Van Vleet and Pascal Siakam, it allows skepticism of what we really are witnessing between these two players. They clearly have great chemistry between them. They're two great personalities who love the game, play with joy and are incredibly likable people. Over the last two weeks of the season they have brought great energy to games. And they've put up impressive numbers.

Over the final 10 games of the season, Toppin averaged 20 points and 5 rebounds on 58% FG shooting and 45% from three. Quickley averaged 17.2 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds over his last 14 games.

But how do you truly evaluate what we saw?

We debated it and also talked about what comes next in our final opening segment of the postgame show. Please watch and respond accordingly:

Regarding RJ Barrett and his sprained knee, Tom Thibodeau said he expects Barrett will be ready to begin offseason workouts on schedule. The players are given an "active rest" period -- which is essentially taking time off after a long season -- for three weeks. So this is good news in regards to the injury he sustained during the Wizards game on Friday night.

Christ, man. Mitch was going for a 20-20 game and winds up with a fractured hand. Incredible SMH. Could be anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the type of break. Maybe Obi gets more run? Depending on the matchups of course.
Knicks should package Bullock, Knox, Rivers a 2021 2ND and a 2023 First for Bradley Beal
Randle throwing passes like:
How is Scott Brooks still employed?
Rose is running a clinic on pass fakes and head fakes right now. Really makes the game look easy for our bigs
If there were ever a “W” on the calendar, it’s tonight. The Wizards are in full TANK mode sitting out Beal 😆 #JimmyBX #FreeJimmyBX
Vintage Melo in the 4th tonight. The NBA GODS make stars like this every 20-25 years. Amazing ignorance the way fans/media treated this guy. Morons...... Why would any stars want to play for such an ungrateful group of savages we have for fans? Some Knick fans deserve 10 more years of STIFFS like Kevin Knox shooting 🐂💩 game in and game out.
"I'm Mitchell Robinson..Mitchell Mitchell Robinson...Iiiiiiim Miiiitchellll Robinsonnnnnnnnn...pptchuh...I'm Mitchell Robinson and this is my show" "So Derrick, how come you only have one facial expression?"
Nice to see the Rose IQ pairing do so well. Unfortunately, the end of the game hilighted why I want us to move away from the notion we have the right players to be contenders one day. It’s also why I want to see Randle moved while his value is so high. Defense at the end of the game is not this same as it’s played in the first 43 minutes of the game. Randle isn’t one of those guys who can score at will against doubles or bigger players in the post. At least not at the end of the game. Yes, it sounds nice to make the playoffs, but I don’t want us there to get our teeth kicked in, which is what’s going to happen if we go this season. And don’t give me this 💩 that there are no takers for Randle, or there are not enough draft picks available, or there aren’t any teams looking to trade their youth. All of this is 🐃💩. Oh, and don’t give me the 🐃💩 about star players looking at the Knicks as a losing team because they keep trading away their best players. Please....They’re not coming here to play with Randle, Rose and RJ. Get off that 💩, please. Aren’t we tired of being teased? Yeah, great we’re 11-15 🙄🙄. Better than 11-29. But we’re 9th in the East, without a dominant player, and minus any young players who project to being stars. There’s a good chance a star is in the Top 5 in this year’s draft. We should do our best to make sure we take advantage of Lady Luck with the Mavs playing like 💩. Sorry, if that means the dreaded “tank” but yeah.....we should. Aight...rant over.
We lost for the same reason we’ve always lost: no go to guy in the 4th. That’s why I say, “Back up the truck!”
